I got a gym membership for my time here, and have really enjoyed going every few days or so. It’s open 24 hours and has a pool, steam room, sauna that’s open all night as well. So going after a long day of grinding live poker for a run and steam and soak is very relaxing. Tonight I went and tried to leg press a little too much weight and slipped a disk or something. It’s some of the worst pain I’ve ever had, although I’ve never broken a bone or anything. Regardless, my back is fuuuuuuuucked. If I’m standing or sitting, then I’m sort of OK. fmllllllllll or how I messed my back up
VEGASSSSSSSSSSS
Well Im heading back to Vegas. The beginning of the WSOP was almost very kind to me. I didnt play alot of tournys but did manage to bag near chip leader of 1 of the few I did play. I pretty much snap tilted and flew home after I busted that tourny tho. I get so frustrated with live poker. Its so boring and time consuming then you bust and your suddenly out of everything. Atleast online I would still be in a few lol. Such putting in days of work for a min cash and then your left with nothing to do. But I am heading back to finish up strong. Vegas!
Heading to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to hanging with all the TPE guys and perhaps enjoying a couple of cocktails with some members as well! Here is my schedule of events while I am there: 7/7 Venetian Deepstack $550 7/8 Venetian Deepstack $340 7/9 Caesars Megastack $550 7/10 Venetian Deepstack $550 7/11 Binions Classic $100 Obviously this could change based on making days twos and what not, but this is generally what is on the roster. In between I’ll be sweating all of the guys at the Rio as they make their deep runs. I’ll be doing regular updates throughout the day via Twitter (@derektenbusch) and will also be sure to update my blog with any interesting hands, fun stories and so on. May we all run good!!
WSOP update
The WSOP is a funny thing. Weeks leading up to the flight out and first few events are filled with excitement and anticipation. Then you find yourself in the RIO, grinding a 15-20BB stack without antes, hour-long levels and people hollywooding every hand, hemming and hawing like the people on TV and realize that it is going to be a very long summer. My results thus far have been underwhelming. I’ve made a few dinner breaks, and am accumulating chips well. However, I’m not doing very well in pots that go to showdown, and as they say, the all-in move works every time but once. Quick update
Just got back from the WSOP a few days ago. I’m incredibly jet-lagged, but that’s okay. The World Series did not go as planned, but besides one Venetian event, I feel I played great and have no regrets. Hopefully I saved all my run good for the Main Event in July. While I was in Vegas, there were attempted login attempts on Stars and FTP. I’ve hardly ever played from a laptop before, and I guess the connection at the Rio is less than secure. Fortunately for me, I had enough security on my accounts to prevent people from getting to the money in my account. Hey guys! Let me start off by saying sorry for not blogging in over a week, it has been a hectic week for me. I was in Vegas for a few prelim wsop events but am now home as I have a wedding on the 11th. Lots to do so haven’t been on the forums or able to blog etc. Grinded online the last couple nights but nothing spectacular there. I did manage to win the 500 on ap 75k guarantee for 20k. I recorded it live as a 6 part series so watch for that to come. Some interesting hands in there! Couple of good ones with TPE member dipthrong. POOF!
Well I busted my downswing last night. Final tabled the Mulligan (6th) and the Sunday 500 (3rd) for about a 60K day. I’ve been grinding MTTs full time for nearly two years now, but the swings still amaze me somehow. To get shit on what seems like endlessly for months and months and then *POOF* it’s all gone in a night. Vegas is, well, Vegas. I really don’t like being here, but all things considered I’m having a great time. Only played one event so far, and have a small write-up to do on it soon. Today is what should be one of the best events of the series, a $1500NLHE 6max. Live 6max tourneys are a lot of fun, and I’m really looking forward to taking advantage of those under-adjusting nits and the over-adjusting tards Feeling really good. Ready [More...]
WSOP blues
Hi guys, Sorry i haven’t been around at all. When I am away from my home I like to stay away as far as I can from a computer, so this is the first time I’m online since I got here. I will get to your questions as soon as I can, but it looks like you’ll have to wait until I get home later this week. I’ve bricked five events since I’ve been here, and without going into too much detail, I got it in really good in most of them. It took me two days to fly to Vegas.
I was set to fly out Tuesday, however my flight was canceled due to weather in NYC. They rebooked for Wednesday morning.
I get on the plane and we sit on the runway for ~30min. I sleep most of the flight, waking up as the pilot announced our descent into Detroit. I look at my phone; it’s 11:50. Looking at my boarding pass, my flight boards at 11:45 and takes off at 12:25. I tell the flight attendant and he says, “well, you’re going to miss that!”
We land and taxi to some gate in the C terminal. I get off with ~10min until my flight takes off and see that it takes off at the very last gate in terminal A.
Goodbye May, Hello June!
May was a relatively brutal month for me. So it is with much excitment that it is now behind us and we are on to June. I put in my first real session in sometime last night and was pretty happy with the results. In addition to shipping a Sunday Million seat, I also had 3 180 final tables. Unfortunately I did not manage to win any of them, but I’m really happy with how I am playing right now so that is all that really matters. Hopefully I can keep playing well and maintain this positive mindset thru the month and leading in to my trip to Vegas in early July.
