Sunday has come and Sunday has gone and finally been profitable for me. To be fair I didn't play anything during the day so that probably helped out some. So what happened, well I managed to score two wins and a fourth in a bunch of 45mans which was nice to help balance things out. Other than that I managed a 33rd in the 35k GTD on Tilt and I double cashed my 2 bullet attempt at the Midnight Madness. Not sure why I decided to play that last one, damn tourney goes half the night, but I did and at the very least I managed to make it payoff a bit. I am glad that the day managed to work out as well as it did and introducing the 45mans into my schedule and keeping them going during the [More...]

Sorry for not updating in quite a while – I really have no excuse except that talkiing about myself is not something I like to do. I started part one of my poker story, and I promise part two will eventually be written. As for life over the past few months – Last year I made a post about trying to get my weight down. I've successfully hit my goal of 215 a few weeks ago, and am actually at 211 pounds right now. It took me exactly a year to go from 250 to what I am at now, and it has been a struggle. Learning to eat right has been very difficult – and I learn new things NOT to eat every day. My cholesterol is unfortunately still a bit high – but is a lot better than what [More...]
Good morning TPE. As many of you know Thursday nights are study nights and last night was no different. I have been reviewing some HH's and working for the last week or so on developing my play out of the blinds better, as I feel that I am just unnecessarily (I hate spelling that work and have come to grips with the fact that I will never spell it right) coughing up money from this position and can make better use of my time there. Okay so what am I doing from there to make better use of this position, well a couple of things. 1. You need to focus more on paying attention to the players that are opening on your blinds and then how all of the remaining players tend to act. 2. You need to understand how [More...]
Just thought I would drop in and give you all a quick update on my session last night. I played about 3hrs or so worth of $5.50 45mans on FTP and was up again. I have only got about 20-25 games in over the last couple of days but so far I am up $125 so I am pretty happy with the overall result. My plan is to continue with hitting these hard for the next while to really jack my BR up. On that note the Mini FTOPs XIX is just around the corner (starts a week from Sunday) and I encourage you to take a look at the schedule. I have had some time and solicited a lot of opinions on the ME tournament format from Pro's and Joe's alike and I think the general consensus I have [More...]
If you have ever spent any real time talking with me about Poker, you will know that this isn't a topic I talk about a lot. It is however one that I believe in quite a bit. I guess that I don't talk about it much as I just take it as second nature and do as good a job as I can adhering to it. My advice to anyone getting involved in the game is to adhere to it as well. This is the one concept away from the table that will potentially make or break you as a player. So what exactly is BRM. Well there are tons of rules and ideas out there on how you should do it. Some folks say you need 200 buy ins, others say 100, some say 50 if you have an [More...]
Good morning TPE Nation. I hope your day is going a hell of a lot better than mine. Lets start of with the positives. This weekend was a pretty nice series of sessions for the Gman. From friday to sunday on Stars I mananged a 120th finish in the $5.50 20k (7200 runners) and a 14th in the 4q 2k GTD as well. Last night in the DDr I managed a 193rd finish out of 6k runners which was pretty nice. The runs are happening which is great, just need to seal the deal. So now on to my tail of woe. I woke up this morning with snow all around me. I took a look outside and things seemed to be pretty decent so I said, what the hell lets go to work. First mistake. I mananged to get [More...]
Hello TPE Nation! Today's post is going to be a bit of a long one as some things have coallesed in my mind of late and I wanted to share everything with you to hopefully speed you along the learning curve a bit faster. So what are we talking about today, well the topics are the two most fundamental aspects of No Limit Hold'em. 1. Hand Reading 2. Pot Control There is a tremendous amount of misconception around these topics and not understanding them and why they are important will be an anchor around your playing journey that you cannot escape. I have been watching a lot of vids (specifically Wein's Theory vid from yesterday and the Hand Reader series from DeucesCracked by Orange and Terp) and reading a ton on these two topics and last night for the first [More...]
So I managed to sneak in a late night session last night and it was all in all pretty successful. I played a $22.50 3.5k GTD on AP and managed a 34th finish out of 198 which I was pretty proud of. Didn't result in a cash (18paid) but I managed to build and maintain a decent stack through most of the time I was playing and was solid and dangerous. I used this tourney to work on flatting more players that I think are fish in position and working on post flop outplaying them. I managed to be reasonable successful with this, identifying poorer players and then manipulating their tendencies (the main focus of last night was looking for Fit/Fold players who open too often/wide). Other tourneys were the 3c on Stars which was a bit of disaster, not through [More...]
Hi all, so I didn't expect to be back today writing a quick post, but it is lunch time and I was reading a really interesting article pair from Andrew "BalugaWhale" Seidman who is a cash game reg and DeucesCracked instructor. The articles I was checking out happened to be on the ideas of 3betting too much and how to use leverage in your favor. The links to the two articles are below and I encourage folks to read and think about them as there is some really sound advice that is applicable to tournament play (the 3betting article for sure as the principle idea is minimizing 3betting to keep pot sizes smaller to maximize your ability to skillfully outplay an opponent post flop rather than pre-flop). 1. http://balugabay.com/?p=6 2. http://balugabay.com/?p=12 The last thing that I will add into todays [More...]
