Has anybody tried Pokersnowie? Would like to get thoughts on the program before taking the step of purchase.

Regards,

Ray

There’s a Thinking Poker episode where they interview the PokerSnowie guy. It seems like a good investment if you play regularly.

Hey Ray…

Hope you are ok…it rhymes!

In truth when I first got Snowie a couple of years back I used to run analysis through Poker Coach…which is part of the software.

The issue around Snowie is that one can’t necessarily trust its output 100%. Snowie will give you a solution, but it cannot explain its decisions.

We are therefore left wondering whether its output is correct, and crucially, because no-one knows what a full strategy (GTO) solution to NLHE looks like yet, we cannot judge the thing objectively.

The software uses a neural network to attempt to approximate a GTO strategy solution, but it is uncertain whether the thing might not instead be arriving at local minima…mathematical dead-ends.

However, in my experience having used the thing for years…I have found three indispensable uses for the software. Unfortunately I got red flagged by the Snowie team for one of these uses…so cut that down to 2.

It is still well worth the purchase.

The use I got red flagged for was using a Snowie table when I was attempting to add another table into my regular schedule. Apparently one is not supposed to be able to run any instance of Snowie when a real money client is open. They closed this avenue.

So the 2 reasons I would still recommend Snowie to any TPE’er…

1) I always warm up HU vs Snowie for 25mins or so pre-sesh. It gets me into thinking about ranges etc. Snowie may or may not be perfectly unexploitable, but it certainly gives me more than a run for my money every time.

2) I particularly recommend this for you Ray… When you are studying a TPE theory video, you can practise with Snowie. For instance, when I was studying Andrew’s Hand Reading series, I played vs. Snowie and used Andrew’s methods to try to read Snowie’s hands. Snowie is a first rate study aid.

Just remember, this is a cash game tool. Personally, I just get the basic package now, and use Snowie only for the 2 uses I stated above.

Highly Riceman recommended!
