Hey TPE- so I was in a full ring 1/3 NLHE live cash session the other day. Table was pretty much daily grinders with huge stacks (300BB+). The guy next to me says “welcome to the table, its been pretty crazy” I can see a lot of action has been going down. This was the first hand I played after sitting down with 80BB. 4 limps around table to me and raise to $15 w AsQs on the button. Blinds call and everyone else folds.

Flop: Ah 5h 8s

SB checks, BB raises to $20.

Opinions greatly appreciated. This is probably only the 15th or so time I’ve played live cash and I have been getting smoked. I read “The Course” and am trying to implement it. Thoughts/ Plan for future streets? Thx

I’d raise a bit bigger pre-flop, like $20. I’d call now, because I don’t know that you should feel comfortable trying to play for stacks with your hand, but I might be underestimating a 1/3 player’s willingness to play for stacks with worse Aces.

I would call and reevaluate.  How’s the book?

Thanks Foucault, britch. Ya I was just kinda stuck, wondering what villain would lead out with, after I raised and he just called Pre. I could tell it was an aggressive table but I still think he would be checking a set here.

Long story short, He ended up having A8o.  I think I make the mistake of not raising preflop enough a lot.. I’m not used to deepstack play yet but people don’t seem to fold to $15 bets with all the limps and stacks and stuff.

BTW, I really liked The Course. Being a super beginner cash player I found it really helpful in at least giving me a basic framework of what I can try to do. It is very well written and reads easy. I wrote a longer review of it in the “books” forum. Prob. be boring for anyone with cash experience but for me it’s been great.
