You keep saying that the idea of “want to take the pot down now” is the wrong way to think. But isn’t that exactly what you are arguing for in the ATo hand 17 minutes in? I know you give reasons why, but it seems to me that if you think about why sometimes you want to take the pot down now, the exact arguments you give in this hand is the reason for thinking that.

That’s a good question. The truth, as with most things in poker, is that “it’s complicated” and “it depends”. In short, you need to think about how likely you are to win if you don’t bet, which means you also have to factor in risk of getting bluffed out, if you don’t have a good bluff-catcher. Also note that I did point to some barreling opportunities where I’ll actually try to get Villain off of better depending on how the board runs out, so it’s not a pure protection bet on the flop. Finally, you have to factor in the price (size of your bet).
