Hi, I was wondering if any of the pros can share advice on stats and how they use them more in depth?

For example I've seen several videos over various sites where a pro says “This guy is playing too loose but will fold if I 3 bet here,etc..”.  My question would be if you have a specific % number that you are making these assumptions on as far as “What number of VPIP do you consider too tight, too loose, too aggro, etc…”? or “What 3bet % is on the high side?”,etc…  I mean for the crazy low or insanely high stats over a decent sample of hands it's pretty clear cut what kind of player someone is along with paying attention but as far as the rest goes are their any good guidelines/percetage #'s to use as a basic guideline?

I hope what I'm trying to say is making sense but I'm just looking for more insight on this from more experienced people. Thanks.

This is a very good idea and I feel it would be really helpful.I was watching wein's theory video today that he did through HM (which was great) and was thinking it would be good if the pros who use holdem manger or pokertracker use it as the hh reviewer every now and then. That way they can discuss how they use the numbers to make a decision.

I definitely use the HUD stats as part of my decision process.  Generally, if people are opening 15% of hands or more, I 3-bet pretty light, whereas if it's less than that, I tend to tighten up my range.

Obviously, this is very general, it also depends on stack sizes, position, etc.  but this is a general thing.

Yep – and expanding off this I look at their Steal % and use that to factor into my decision of whether or not to 3 bet/re-jam from my blind.

I aso have begun (not sure why I didn't do this sooner) to look at the detailed breakdown of their VPIP because lately I've seen some folks running like 24/16 but they're super tight from EP.

I think HUD stats are great through the first hour or so because when you're multi-tabling you're on autopilot mode and you can easily miss seeing a fish or two at your tables.

Once you get around the bubble and into the money I tend to not look at the stats anymore and focus on gameflow while trying to figure out who tightened up for pay jumps and who loosened up to take advantage of the people playing scared money.

I use my HUD as a general guide. It gives me clues to frame my decisions and I use it to attempt to fill in missing information, specifically around ranging and player. Remember that it is incredibly dangerous to lean on it for make decisions, but it is a really really nice tool for trying to fill in the gaps.

Just remember sample size in the stats. I think you can get a general idea of the way a player plays in about 25-30 hands, but when looking at positional stats, steal %, aggresion factor etc… I think a higher number of hands is needed to get a realistic overview of a players style and range, probably over 100 hands minimum.

The main thing I look at is VPIP and PFR obv. On my HUD I have VPIP,PFR,Cbet stats,3bet stats, and number of hands. Outside of those, I rarely look at anything else tbh. Popup stats are full of valuable info but the context is missing without digging. Did these 50 hands come early, mid stages, or late? Stats will be far different imo, esp from a player that adjusts properly. At 10-20 blinds till about 75-150 I have drastically different stats than I do once antes kick in, just remember to take that into consideration.

I guess the thing I am talking about is I am a very TAG player, but 20 hands into a tourney I can be 4/4 and I can be 35/20 playing the same style. Just remember stats are what they are, a loose guideline to assign ranges and no more I think. Even a 35/3 passive fish can pick up AA on the button lol.
