Sup Tpe, just a quick question.  I have been building my bankroll playing $1 OD Rush tourneys on full tilt and am doing very well over 150% ROI, however my question is should I be taking shots at micro tourneys while im doing this or should I just wait, save my profits till I get up to 1.5k-2k so I can play the $5-$10 mtts?  i ask because the field sizes are so massive for the micros 3-5k  sometimes 2-3k but rarely.  It seems like a long shot to win one of these?  I have spent about $100 since feb playing micro tourneys and havn't gotten deep 1 time.  What do yall think?  Just wondering what yalls thoughts are?  Is it alot easier to win a $5-$10 mtt with 2k runners then a micro tourney with 3-6k runners?   The $1 OD RUSH tourneys usually have 300-500 runners.  Or am I just being impatient and need to just keep playing the micros and taking shots?   Or instead of giving my self $10 micro tourney money every time I get a 1st, and $5 for 3rd , should I just play 1 $10 tourney and 1 $5 tourney?   Just looking for some thoughts on the situation.

I think i would stick with the smaller fields if you are looking for a lower variance way to build the bankroll.  Sounds like you are on the right path, so Id stick with it for a bit.  just my 2 cents.

I mostly agree with KB, I have a friend who I am trying to help through the same process and one big problem that I have discovered is that as long as he is still working on his game and improving lots misstakes are inevitable and it is very frustrating when this happens 3/4 times your somewhere between the last 5% and 0,1% of remaining players. Meaning in smaller fields your fatal misstakes are gonna happen every couple mtts where as in a big one its gonna be one in most of them.

I advised him to stick to 180mans or in ur case the ODs in order to have more successfull experiences and actually achieve profits from it.

if you are grinding them out for a decent profit, why change? maybe once a week play a couple of bigger ones but if you have found a game that you beat and enjoy i would keep doing it and just move up stakes when your roll allows (there are 1,4,11 ones right?)

What's your current bankroll?

In a vaccuum, I would say keep doing what you are doing and wait until our BR is bigger to play $5 and $10 tourneys – but I would not limit myself to the huge fields when that happens.  I would play mostly smaller field ones ($5 and $10 on deman rush sound good to me) and throw in a few bigger ones once in a while for variety and a shot at the bigger score.

Wow, thanks for all the replys and advice.  You guys pretty much summed up what I was thinking in my head, that I need to just stick it out and grind the OD Rush tourneys as I enjoy playing them and am doing well in them.  I love the thrill and journey of each big mtt.  Its like each mtt is a journey and adventure and one wrong turn and BAM ur done…lol   I juz cant wait for that first 4 figure cash as it will fill so gr8.  However, I do feel that my postflop game definitly needs some improvement before I tackle the midstake mtt's.  I really feel my preflop game is very solid now and I am definitly getting a better feel for postflop and  whereas before I found this site when I would have a hot run and build a stack I would eventually donk it off.   However, NOW Id say 7 out of 10 times when I get a big stack I keep it till the FT.   Thank you guys for all the help and advice you give for i attirbute my current success 100% to this site.  The knowledge I have gained is invaluble.

When I started this venture Feb 16th I put $10 on full tilt, got a decent run initially and got a 3rd right off the bat to give me about 40 buy ins and have steadly crawled up to $357 after 400 games.  Not sure how much id have had I not played any of the mtts along the way, but I estimate ive spent about $100-$150 on various large MTTs trying to hit a big FT.  I played a couple miniFTOPS events in march and have played quite a few $1r rush and a few of the $5 Super stack rush tourneys aswell.

If anyones interested I made a thread back in feb in the Poker goals and challenges and it gives a detailed account of my playing since feb 16th which is when I joined this site and really started playing seriously and FINALLY became a winning player by simply applying  CRUSH Equity.   Fold equity was yesterdays term, I think a better term for the newage style of holdem is simply….Crush Equity.  lol

Thx and godbless

I just wanted to add in one thought. Its a nice thought to build ur roll up and then just immediately start playing $5-10 mtts. I think that could be a quick reality check though. Mtt's take a lot of practice to get good at and your not practicing with ur tourney selection. That is fine but I would not expect to build a roll and start playing $5-10 mtt's and expect consistent results right away, a big downswing could easily happen. GL with your planning and achieving your goals.

I took a similar approach to you. Turned a small investment into a $1500 roll mostly by grinding 45 mans and picking up some bonuses on Stars.

I have started turning my attention towards MTTs. I have decided to play a lot of the massive field $2 -$5 events as it allows me to learn even though I realise the big scores will be few and far between given the minefield that needs negotiating. However in the couple of weeks I have been playing I have had a good few top 50s and one or two top 25s so those final tables will come around. I have been mixing in tournaments up to $27 though to give myself a mix. Avg buyin works out to about $10. Oh and I throw in 180 turbos on my MTT sessions when things are still heating up or towards the end of the session when I start losing tables.  I probably put 5 nights a week towards poker and my current plan is to balance the MTsng type grind with the MTT sessions somewhat evenly, although I must admit that my current fascination with MTTs has meant thats where I have spent my time mostly the last few weeks. Will need to get back on track with some grinding as the roll has dipped a little.

So I think we are on a similar track. Only thing is I would suggest that you not be to scared to throw in some pure mtt sessions now and then even if they made up of low buyin huge field events. Good opportunities to learn and practice some of the skills needed to do welll in mtts that are not necessarily needed to do well in the mtsng turbo space.

what bonuses did you get?

I have been reading articles about how sng grinders make a decent portion of their BR from rakeback, which I have, and bonuses. Just not sure what these bonuses are?

Pokerstars Stellar Rewards as well as a deposit bonus. I managed to get a mate to “loan” me some online money which allowed me to deposit during the deposit bonus period. I cleared the bonus and shipped his money back on Stars. I realise thats not always possible but if you can do it its free money… The $100 there and I think I have earned close to $100 in stellar….
