what value hand is this? There are no fives in his preflop range, so it is KK or QQ, this is never AA or JJ.  He probably c-ets KK and QQ a large % of the time on this board b/c he would normally be c-betting close to 100% on a paird K high board and will get action from worse hands, wanting to build a pot with KK.  Checking this flop indicates a marginal strength hand IMO as he bets his pure bluffs and his value hands, but will check the inbetween hands with some showdown value.   Also I doubt he ever jams river with such nutted hands against what Rand is repping, which is a pretty weak hand as he probably bets a lot of his kings on the flop, and the most likely hands in his range when he calls turn are AQ and 88-JJ, notice how it is really hard for him to have a king as he probably 4-bets AK pre and folds KJs.  KQs may call pre, but probably bets flop as it still is vunerable to aces and figures to be aheas, but I could see him taking this line a % of the time, especially b/c rasing turn with KQs acomplishes nothing but eliminating the hands he has dominated.  If he wanted value from a queen or worse I would assume he would bet like 5-6k, so when he jams river here against rand's percieved range it should never be for value, but it should work as a bluff most of the time against Rand's percieved range as it will be very hard to justify calling a 3x pot shove with 3rd pair or a queen here, which Rand figured out and correctly called.  Very good play by him imo.

I think jshilling's analysis of this hand has a lot of things guys should pay attention to and not just fluff off that this was some miraculous hero call. There is a lot going on in the hand with the betting dynamics that makes the call here very easy to make with the AQ, but you need to pay attention to all of the steps of the thought process to get there.

jshilling is pretty much spot on.

Here is my “meta game” analysis.

Bryn 3 bets A high here, standard 3 bet to button raise from an aggro player like Randal.

Bryn's 3 bet range here in my imo can be any two.  There are plenty of 5's. plenty of kings, etc.

Let's do some quick math here as well.

Preflop BB's t300 + $3200 from bryn and randal= $3500.

pot control checks by both on the flop

turn bet by bryn is blocker/induce a raise bet with the flush draw.  I think if Randal raises in the this spot, he gets jammed on and might fold.

Randal hits his queen and pot controls again.

River is an obv blank.  Bryn's turn bet set up a river shove, if the river is any other card besides a king or a queen.

I think he shoves if a spade hits as well, completing his flush.  Looks like a bluff, and he get value from ak, kq, or aq

More math.

$3500 preflop + $4800 on turn = 8300/27541(brynn's starting stack= roughly 30% stack increase if randall folds.

this is a +EV shove imo.  Bryn knows Randall can pick a better spot then to call off that much $ with top pair, or 2nd pair.

From a math perspective, Bryn is the genius here imo.  From a dissecting the hand by pot controlling, and i'm sure plently of history, Randall is the genius here.

Well played by both, but I still like Bryn's line.  30% stack increases are huge.
