Man, that is great advice I have never even considered! I am a habitual lobby checker lately. In the month of may alone, I have made 24 final tables with prize pools over 10k, all with mid 4 figures and 5 figures up top. So far I have not won one, have only got 2nd or 3rd 5 times and the rest have been 6-9. I am definitely going to stop checking the lobby and move back into the realm of three betting lighter and moving in on guys that are obviously just trying to move up the ladder. I know to do it on the reg but it always takes a reminder as to why to turn it up in those spots because so many players suffer from this problem.

As far as how to approach it, and I think I got away from this over the past month, is that it is better to charge into the FT as a huge stack than nursing a small stack and just praying for cards to double up with. So Chris is right in the sense of any edge you can take you should rip with in the final two tables. You may bust in 18th but on the flip side, it's much easier to climb the pay structure and make your way to short handed FT play when you have the chips to be intimidating and not worry about the rest.

Am i the oinly guy who feels the huge pressure as described, checks the lobby every second, imagines what to do with the bink dollars, doesnt want to tighten up coz that what everybody says and then immediattly over compensates but 7 betting garbage like 10/3o 20 hands in a row pre flop so as to not appear to be "affected" by the money?

100% agree with this. the first time you do something, whether it be winning your first tourney, breaking through for a 4/5 figure score etc etc, it is terrifying, then the next time you do it its not so bad.

with 18 left i give about 0 weight to ICM since the real jumps dont start till the FT. pretty much if its cEV and not a huge punt I'm willing to take any edge I can. the difference between the 18th place pay out and the 13-15th place pay out in the long run isnt going to mean much to your ROI, but taking 1-3rd will.

i agree with all above who suggested you not look at the lobby too much.

also: EXPERIENCE! final tables and winning tournaments seems a lot less stressful when you get a few under your belt. you can get over the gravity of the situation easier because youve been there before

Pressure can be a good thing. It makes you focus more on each decision. Tightening up your calling ranges can be good, too, depending on the ICM situation. What you need to remember is to compensate for the fact that many of your opponents will be doing the same. Focus on finding the right spots to apply pressure to others, and then you'll have enough chips that you can make those laydowns when you are probably flipping.

DONT look at the lobby for the payout bumps. by all means look at how much it is for first, then dont open the lobby again

if you want to see average stack etc do it via the info tab at the table

What methods are people/have people used to ease pressure in the last 18/final table...I find myself feeling pressure and tightening up calling ranges for example.

How can I detach myself from the pressure of the final stages?!
