I agree 100% I just thought it was funny that the books I read about some of the top bussiness men and athletes all had the same view as poker. Even though the bussiness men did say sometimes they can't get away from work becuase it is their lifestyle, they did counteract it with saying after long stretches they will take a mini vacation.

This is a great post. Personally I'm of the opinion that a lot of guys are doing themselves harm in the long term by spending most of their 20s doing nothing but grinding online poker. It's all about maximising your EV when you're at the table, but unless you're insanely motivated to play poker, your overall life experience is going to suffer in the long term if you don't focus on maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

I just cameback to poker and real life and burning my spring/summer in the real world college life. I have read a few a few (non-poker related) books and they all seem to have one major common factor. This common factor is simply a good balance of what is good in your life. Let's start out with relationships (as males). So in a relationship we don't really like to be around our significant other 24/7, but we can't say that, we just have to live our lives and make different arrangement to ensure that we won't be around our loved ones all the time. Also, we enjoy our beers, smokes and I'm sure some others marijuana, but do we smoke these or drink these all the time? No, granted the high might be around all the time, but we are not constantly blowing smoke or drinking beers. Now this brings us back to poker, which means that a good life balance of poker and anything else will be profitable to your poker career. You can grind like a sicko and make it your life, but in the end you won't play your best cards and you sure as shit won't have a girlfriend to worry about but seriously, talk poker with friends, review HH's by yourself at first and write down what you may think your leaks were, or what you think you could of done differently-- whether it's three betting or calling down then after all that ask someone else's opinion about your notes and what you could of done differently to see if they agree or if they have a better solution. As humans our memories are very complex and you have to really replace a memory to get better at overwriting it. So, when you find something that you could have done diffferent, then you put it up in your memory and get someone else's view, so that it is easier to rewrite. You could be terribly wrong in what you think you have done wrong and maybe that's not truly your leak, but that is why we train our brains to be better! Even Wayne Gretzky said "You miss 100% of the shots that you don't take" So if you think it's a 3 bet spot then try it! What's the worst that happens? You're wrong? Welcome to life and poker 101

Goodluck!
