While I agree in theory with everything said above, if you really tilt so easily due to those comments I'd disable the chat if your software support it, if not just make a mental effort to just not read it ever. While theoretically you could exploit it it easier to just silence it and move on.

I almost never write in the chat and when I do I'm usually:
- Tilted. The most common case where I've just lost a pot against the odds or someone has made a super strange call to my bluff.
- Amused. By some strange play that has happened on the table. A fishy player has made a strange move or made a play he shouldn't.
- Tilting. I will throw a comment out to put someone in tilt cause I feel they're susceptible to it in that particular moment.

Generally speaking in each occasion I'm giving away information so that's why I try to never do it and why when other people do it you can exploit it. The "lol" comments, insults and such indicates that THEY are tilted... But again, if it tilts you, better just to ignore.

For me i use the Tilt Protocol from Jared Tendlers Book "The Mental Game of Poker".

This Book gives you the recipe how to "Inject Logic" to avoid that tilt takes own of your brain an blocks the process of doing the right things.
It also show off that the Tilt is the result of some bad habits in your mental processes to play poker.
Working with that books strategy helps me to find the roots of that habits and correct the errors.

I am still tilting also but have now the ability to feel the signals when the tilt try's to own my mental processes and can prevent me of doing bad things which many times costs me money.

The easiest way if you are not interested in reading poker books is to block the chat.

First off I want to say props to Matt for discussing the underlying problem here. I am a US reg, and the vast majority of the time I get berated at the online tables the same thing happens: I pat myself on the back and smile, and realize that I made a great play. In my opinion, for an opponent to be bothered to berate you in chat they are either:

a. a tilt prone fish -or-

b. regs who are thrown off by your out-of-the-box line/play.

If anything you do that is not "standard" gets berated, then who cares? Most likely you are doing something very right when people feel compelled to say something. If you complete out of the BB with 74o for 40 chips getting 6:1 and put 3,000 chips in on the turn on 7A27 vs AK and get laughed at for calling pre does this bother you?

People who abuse others in chat or laugh at the line you take are dumb. 90% of the time, they're going to be one of the fish at the table. NeverAA is right - they're giving away information.

However, often a response to the situation similar to what yours has been can often be a symptom of an underlying confidence problem. It seems like you don't truly trust that you're making the right plays, or perhaps you care too much about what other people think of your game. Random fish don't matter, it's the good players who matter, and most of the time when you take a bad line they won't tell you about it. They'll just shut up and take your money.

Focus more on how you're playing and the mistakes you might be making, and less on what others say to you at the table.

I am a reg in nj networks and people who dont know me judges me and shows reactions like that, once i was even subject to racism. The line or cards i pick are solely my decision and even calling almost any minraise to see a flop when there are 2-3 players left is stupidity for them. I started using this information instead of tilting. For this specific example, it shows me that player is not only tight, but he also doesnt know much about end game. Plus, they are mostly focused on their cards than yours whereas i think poker is a game of taking advantage of situations.

This happened a ciuple of hours ago and i literally got the guy off about 80 percent off his hands and won the nightly 5k.

My humble and nonpro advice to you is to mind your own thing, play your best game and use the free information these fools give you.

Hey guys, opinions on topic? Sometimes it really affects me and other times i just feel like they look dumber than i do for laughing at beginner/fish when without us, he wouldnt be making any money if everyone played the perfect game. Is this a tech online players use frequently? Typing in stupid "lol" after someone chooses a bad line/bad hand to play. I hope they know it just makes me wanna go lose my money to someone else. Or win theirs even more.....

Thoughts?
