Move up stakes. Don't play when tired or under the weather.

I know it is easy to say "move up stakes" when you don't have the roll, but speaking from personal experience I just punt away $$$ if I play at micro stakes. Conversely, when I am playing a T which is too expensive for my roll BR wise, I seize up and always try to limp in to the $.

You need to find a middle ground.

Having said this, if you are newish to tournaments then it's probably best to stick to v small stakes. Then again, if you have no motivation whilst playing, you are unlikely to be learning a lot. It's a hard call...I can give you one pointer...the 27-180 man $15 turbos on PStars are excellent MTT sit n go's. They are always firing up, only take an hour or so to run, and because they normally run at 80 players max, your roll of $800 is almost adequate, so long as you are a winning sit n'go'er.

And finally,

" I dont know if this is a pro or a con but sometimes I have made hero calls based on a plays nationality "[Image Can Not Be Found]

Gee, not sure what happened to the emoji there...but I think this is probably a "con".

I'll speak to the motivation factor for you. I think two things work for me. Setting personal challenges (bankroll goals, volume goals, etc) and surrounding myself with other players to talk poker with, but also to give us a kick in the ass when we lose motivation. Join skype groups, make friends with some other TPE members, etc. I think that is the single best way I have found to stay motivated.

So mixed results since I made this post.

Pro's

- Had a couple of FT's, and binked one but it was a very small field and small prize pool.

- The uni section is pretty cool and some videos are actually entertaining "sticking it to the man" was probably the best video so far.

- Not in profit but that was expected

- Learnt alot from playing and understanding some basic spots which you wouldn't see in a cash game

- Absolute abuser of button pressure but this has also back fired and I look like pretty stupid and dont make the cash

Con's

- Didn't know how to play balanced when i was the big stack at the FT, had a few friends tune into the stream and they said I should have been more agro when we got down to 5 handed. At the same time they said I was hard to read.

- I think I put myself in awful spots sometimes or attempt to bluff the wrong person

- Motivation playing $1-$5 MTTs

- Mite be punting of a stack to soon, I mite be taking to much of a risk to soon but then I have a mindset of I need chips to win and if i am the tightest player on the table where never getting any action unless we are crushed. Probably another balance issue.

- Some videos in the uni, the mic's quality makes me not want to watch the video

- High agro factor players, feels like I am getting destroyed by them.

- Making the big folds on the FTs eg, 10/5 nit goes all in for 15bbs and I cant fold AK and offcourse has the american airlines. It was a 4th v 5th flip on the FT so from that point I dont think I can fold AK..just a awful spot when you haven't seen the villian play a hand for the entire FT.

Questions

Should you always just aim to beat the bubble? - I want to play for the bink and I cant do that with 10-15bbs.

should I have a 4bet bluff range in the micros?

How do you keep motivated? I love the game but I struggle after a long day to play another 4+hours of poker.

Sorry if this was a bit of ramble, I just had to vent

Welcome and good luck!

There are lots of great series here to fix whichever leak you want to battle first, including some really good ICM stuff.

As a fellow runner myself, I think there's a huge correlation between the two.

Enjoy.

Hi

I am awful at these things but hears the intro – So im in my 30s from the UK and I am quite addicted to this game. Started playing a few years ago grinding 2nl and recently have been playing at 25nl and sometimes 50nl when the cash games have been good. I do not have a recent graph to show you guys because I played on sites which do not support PT or HM.

Why leave the cash games?

Mostly the enjoyment factor

Reg upon Reg the higher the limit, in cash games.

I think in the time it takes me to break even or show any profit at 50nl, I would be decent a MTT’s/SNG’s

Bankroll roughly $800, playing MTT’s from $1-5 and the odd $10. I have played a few MTT’s when cash grinding but never put in much time or effort. Also playing sng's to keep myself busy but currently struggling to find a schedule of tourneys due to work shift patterns.

Some results below on this link

My pocket fives profile, not much to look at

Goal

I would just like to bink a MTT, not concerned about the cash prize just the bink.

Make a poker MTT schedule which gets the volume in but I also go for runs. (Did my first 1/2 marathon this year)

Keep this updated, to keep motivated and use the sites for some active learning.

The Dream

Have a big year on the tables and go and squeeze one out on my desk at work (Quit my job).

My Plans

Playing the monster series on PartyPoker next week cant wait for that and may have to move the bankroll across a couple of sites.

Train for the next marathon

My leaks

- I go with my hand to early in a MTT, for example flop bottom set and even though theres a straight out there, bigger sets. I do this because I think the MTT's are micro level I expect people are never folding over pairs and top pair etc. I also have the mentality of you don't make many hands so when you do go with it.

- Not 100% sure on ICM yet

- Working out my range for calling based on events/situation. Sometimes I miss a key fact for example its a bounty mtt and my range should be wider due to the bountys. This is probably due to the amount of tables.

- Probably reg-ing to late so i am a push fold stack within 10 hands of sitting down

Pros

- I like playing deep 50bb+

- mental game is pretty solid, I do not tilt easily. If I do its just a hellmuth.

- Understanding the bubble pressure

- I dont know if this is a pro or a con but sometimes I have made hero calls based on a plays nationality 😉

Any advice is welcome, good luck at the tables.
