With regard to BRM, I don't think it's possible to be over-rolled. People should be playing at the highest stakes they have reason to believe they can beat, not the highest stakes they can afford. You don't want to lose a bunch of money just for the sake of finding out whether you can beat a certain limit or not.

Start out low, beat those games for a good winrate over a good sample (that means thousands of tournaments). Then move up. Don't second-guess yourself - if you're worried about being scared money at low stakes, moving up won't help that. The answer to thinking "it's only $X" isn't to play higher, it's to think about making the best decision according to the chips on the table and in the pot, and forget about the buyin level. Fix the root of the problem, don't just avoid it.

Hi, im tiltyshoes, i procrastinate and can make an excuse for everything!
Right, Now thats the AA meeting bit out of the way as the title of the post says i've decided to start from scratch.
I believe this is the third? time i've become a member of TPE as i usually sign up, lurk on the forums, watch the video's. Then real life kicks in and poker gets put on the back burner etc you guys know the drill.

So whats different this time? I feel as though i have a totally different mentality in my approach to poker this time around. My background in poker was definitely recreational, drinks and laughs with the lads, the results never really mattered. A mindset that i carried over to my online play which isn't conducive to solid results.

I'm starting this thread as a way of holding myself accountable. Any thoughts or questions i have relating to poker will probably end up in this thread aswell as any aspects of my game im working on.

Right now im trying to set some foundations, so im thinking bankroll. You read all the time about people taking shots and playing under-rolled, im the exact polar opposite! It's not because im too cautious or scared of losing, it's because i'm not entirely sure what my bankroll is? i have over $1k online but would deposit more if i needed/wanted to. Yet Monday night for e.g. i played in a $1 (250 cap) game on pokerstars. I guess my question is can you play too low stakes and am i limiting myself by doing so? I really need to pinpoint my "regular" stakes.

If i were to answer my own question i'd have to say yes and no. I feel for me personally that you can be over-rolled for the micro stakes games but if i were to be playing higher for e.g. $100 rebuys then id say no i don't care what my bankroll is, im not over-rolled for that game.

I think it boils down to two questions for me. Does the amount of money i stand to win interest me? and does the tournament fee affect my decisions at the table? e.g. should i call that shove with ATxx because if i bust its only $??? and i can reload another.

I apologize for the ramblings in this post and of those to come but for now im off to read some bankroll articles and to try and put a definitive figure on what shall be known as my bankroll.

Good luck at the felt, tilty.
