Doing this more to develop a positive/trustworthy reputation for bigger staking next summer.

Name is Mike Cation, I've been playing poker off and on since 2003ish, and have made a bigger commitment to get after it since May. In the 6 months, I've done well, although my schedule has prevented me from playing a higher volume. You can read about my journey here: https://www.tournamentpokeredge.com/forum/poker-goals-and-challenges/this-is-my-second-time-signing-up-and-my-second-time-starting-a-challenge-for-myself-here/#p72101

Here is my schedule for tomorrow, of which I'm selling up to 50% at no markup. Will be playing regardless: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IvQEOOZI1QiE4M6-NDIkbyJTc6_YyMgCzvTbO0AoRug/edit#gid=0

I do reserve the right to make some changes on the schedule throughout the day, as I see fit. Generally, I drop some of the minor guarantees if I'm running deep in a couple birds.

Here are my graphs on Carbon (kennycalhoo), ACR (kennycalhoo), and Iggy since May 1, when I restarted playing after rejoining TPE:

Email with questions, and again, doing this more to develop a positive reputation. Accepting PP, Chase, and ACR.

Hi, my name is Joe Luht. I played professionally from 2009-2011. In 2009 I won the Sunday million for $174,000 after chopping (not on sharkscope for some reason). Also, that year was the only year I have played the main event, finishing in 123rd. Played MTT's in 2010 profiting about $50,000. In 2011, I played all sng’s trying to get Supernova Elite.

After Black Friday I played on Merge for about 6 months with $14,000 profit. Then I didn’t play a hand of poker for the following 4 years until I signed up with BOL.

Since getting back into I have profited roughly $60,000 on BOL playing mtt’s (sharkscope just started tracking that site in March). I am the #1 ranked player on there for total profit.

Haven’t done great on ACR. Currently on a $5,000 downswing. Still showing $3,500 profit since starting on there just over a year ago.

As far as live play goes in the last year I’ve won some small tourneys at the Horseshoe in Baltimore that aren’t tracked for about $5,000 profit. Played one event at the Maryland live WPT last year and cashed for $1,056. Most recently played 4-5 events at the WSOP circuit Baltimore, but did not cash.

Looking to sell up to 60%, would still play if I can sell 40%. I would play day 1c. I could accept PayPal, bank wire, WPN, or cash in Vegas.

Markup = 1.20 for 1-4% / 1.15% for 5%+

1% - $120
5% - $575

About me:

Hello, TPE family! My name is Nick Zautra. I am a 31-year-old Cognitive Science doctoral student who plays primarily online MTT’s. I've been a member of TPE on and off for the past few years, and a student of TPE Pro Matthew Hunt since July 2016. Since starting coaching with Matt, I’ve cashed for over $85k in online MTT’s on the U.S.-facing sites Ignition and ACR, with five, $5k+ cashes in 250-600 person fields. In May 2017, I relocated to Querétaro, MX to play a full low/medium SCOOP schedule. While I didn’t come out on top during this SCOOP series, I built big stacks, made several deep runs in 1000-2000+ person fields, and became accustomed to playing with and adjusting to tough (and not so tough) opponents.

While my play is currently limited to online due to my work schedule and present location, I actually got my start back in 2013 in my hometown of Tempe, AZ, where I found early success playing daily live tournaments and cash at Casino Arizona. I’ve played a few live events such as on the WSOP circuit, the Seminal Hard Rock Poker Open, PH Goliath, and Venetian Deep Stacks, but unfortunately only cashed in one event (I ran pretty terrible, and also admittedly had some leaks.)

Since putting in a large volume of low, mid, and some high stakes MTT’s online over the past year, working 60+ hours with my Tournament Poker Edge coach Matthew Hunt as well as on RunItOnce (yes, I went to the dark side), and having built up a bankroll from $200 to $38k in just four months playing MTT’s on Ignition, I am confident in my edge in the tournaments in which I plan to play.

Call me Del Boy!

(Ahhh only British members will know about Del Boy and Rodney from Only Fools And Horses... Or perhaps in the US you get to watch it? It is classic...best of British comedy! If you have a moment Youtube "Del Boy falling through bar" and watch the clip...its hilarious!).

Anyway to illuminate those with neither the time nor inclination to find out about Del Boy, he is a classic wheeler-dealer wide boy always coming up with hair-brained get-rich-quick schemes.

So straight into it.

I have finally taken the move to take poker seriously seeing the $$$ and through TPE discovering fairly quickly some insane leaks in my game.

The information I am looking for is what does it generally take to get your first backing deal?

I am looking for something with coaching alongside the deal to help progress my game further ( this appeals to me more than the bankroll help)

The reason I ask the above is purely because until now I have sucked at poker and it was purely entertainment. I can now see some solid results yet if I approach one of the larger stables I know that I wouldnt be considered purely on historic data.

Are there any guidelines to what my stats in terms of ROI% and number of games played, would need to be before being considered.

thanks in advance

Andrew is correct. There are surely many who would consider the 90% as a gift rather than their share. The problem is anyone who plays at a level where they could benefit from such an arrangement is likely to also have creative tax returns already.

The best option is to find things to write off the income. It can mean high-buy-in tournaments. It can mean lots of donations to nonprofits. As long as you're itemizing deductions, there are ways.

As I understand the situation it is the responsibility of the staker to pay the taxes. The tax would be "paid" in the UK at 0%. Obviously if you then need to pay tax again in USA this wouldn't be a fantastic deal for you lol.

I wouldn't be claiming your winnings as my own, I would merely be acting as processor, a backer in name only.

The idea for this came from a...I forget the site but it was a reputable big-name site, and the author explicitly stated that a USA player can circumvent the US tax laws if his backer is British.

Although Andrew I am new to MTTs and certainly have no experience in staking, and although I have known some backers I have had no business relationship with them.

I wish I could direct you to the site...I'll take a look!

If I understand you correctly, I don't think this accomplishes anything. Sounds like you're saying that if I win 100K and would have to pay 35K in taxes on it, you could instead claim the 100K as your own winnings, keep 10K, and then give me 90K. However, that 90K you give me would still be income for me, and I would still have to pay taxes on it.

Hey TPE'ers,

So I have an idea. Please understand this idea is:

A) Purely hypothetical at this stage. I have studied the legality, it seems to be good, although technically it may be a loophole.

B) Possibly something everybody already knows about and already does, in which case disregard.

C) Possibly something nobody will be interested in, although you can't argue with the maths.

D) Possibly redundant from the get-go because you all have other methods of reducing your tax bills.

Understanding the above, I gather US players have to pay 25 or 30% taxes on their yearly profits. (Some places say 25 others 30).

In the UK we pay 0% on gambling winnings, unless we derive the majority of our income from gambling, ie we are professional gamblers.

I understand if US players are staked the responsibility of tax payment defers to the staker.

Hypothetically, I would act as your staker; the arrangement would consist of my processing your gross winnings through our tax free system for a processing fee of way less than 30%. I'm thinking along the lines of between 5 and 10% TBD.

It's just an idea, maybe as I said you all have much better arrangements and this is of less than zero interest (in which case sorry for wasting your time).

There may also be a huge legal flaw which I am unaware of.

But just maybe, it could be a winner! As they say...you've got to be in it to win it!
