Essentially, it is like a satellite where some people get $1000 and others dont get any.

In today's, I got short stacked, solid plays until average again, and then made some moves in position and in blinds(a big THANKS to Andrew Brokos' training videos!!!). Was 23/26 in stacks and then stayed in the top 2 stacks from ~20 players until 7 were paid.
