Not too long after that, watching Andrew Brokos 2016 ME review he plays an above the rim hand where he does just that. It is in episode 6 of that series. Highly recommended.

Hey all,

The title pretty much says it all. I have been in quite a bit of a down swing over the last few months (I am just now starting to see some daylight with a few min cashes and deep runs) and I know ONE of my problems is playing probably more games than I should. That said I haven't answered my own question i.e. "well play the games you have been successful in the past". That being a pretty simplified solution. So I am just looking for some ideas on what other players do and how you guys select the games you play.

Thanks,

Fabulous series. I really learned a lot. For those of you who haven't watched this, put it on the top of your list. I have some questions:

1. Can Villains who know we play these strategies exploit them by changing which hands they flat with? In particular, in position, they 'know' they can see 4 cards if they like. Does this make speculative hands (set mines, sc's) more or less profitable? Out of position, they know they are getting even better implied odds, since we are auto betting all but the most dynamic flops.

2. When we have checked the flop, and Villain checks back, what is our 'general' plan on the turn? You assume most Villains will stab too much (as happened to me the one time I have tried this live). So, should we be betting our entire range when they check behind? (Seems like yes, especially if the turn is a blank).

3. What happens when we are in middle position, which seems to happen often. We raise, late position flats, now BB calls with huge range. Should we still be checking the flop? My instincts are yes; the LP has the same range, and now there is another person to contend with. As against that, the pot is now larger...

I actually have been dealing with all of the above QUITE A BIT as of late myself and would love to see some replies from the coaches on this/these topic/s.

Well Andrew sure does. Awesome series making my way through it as we speak. Highly suggest it for anyone looking for a GREAT "theoretical" series.

Let us not forget the amazing TPE University. Ground Up learning and than your electives. Get through that (even if you think you may know some of it) and you will come out with a noticeable edge. Personally I DO believe it IS structured in a way that provided all the things your lokking for but that is IMHO. There are so many other resources out there that it's hard to list them all but Peter 'Carroters' Clarke - The Grinder's Manual is a damn fine learning resource. I KNOW it is designed with the 6-MAX cash player in mind but believe me when I tell you that it really is a great resource for MTT players as well. Also refining your chart memorization, ALWAYS keeping sharp with your "poker math" and tweaking/getting the most out of any software tools you may use really helps. Last bet absolutely NOT LEAST I find that watching the TRULY GREATS (we all know who they are at the moment the rarefied air type shit MTT players) play things like the SHRB (5 is going on now), Poker Masters, Triton/EPT/WPT events (YouTube) and watching them the same way you would watch a tutorial video is GREAT! In fact check the forums for the recent post on HOW to study and read said article just applied to the latter.

Hope you find this helpful and your study/game keep improving,

Hey TPE!

I would love to study more, but I sit down at my PC and I'm like. Well fuck. Should I watch another TPE video? should I go through my hand histories? Where should I start? What homework should I do? I wonder how the pros structured their study time when they were coming up? What did they study, and in what order did they study things? How can I get the most out of my studying time?

Is there videos on this, and if there isn't... Can there be? It would really really help to have some sort of study path, and TPE U fills that to a certain degree and has a place, but it doesn't really show me how to optimise my time away from the table.

All my love and appreciation, Josh.

On the 24th page the video series is actually called "Getting Paid". So that's my mistake, my computer saved it as Value targeting. But, it's all the same. Hope that helped. Also, check out his BB Defense series. It's quite amazing as well.

What's up TPE? As you can see by the title, this thread is about the video series 'Value Targeting' by Andrew Brokos. This series (IMO) is outstanding. I think Andrew did an excellent job. For me, it's one of those videos where you just can't stop watching. I Only watched it once, but I think I will go back and watch it again to really try and drive home (mentally) everything Andrew was trying to teach. It really cleared up a lot of uncertainty for me especially when it came to figuring out where/how to get the most value in certain situations. I do believe that was a 'next-step' for me or even a weakness that I will now try to implement in my game. I am a beginner in this sport(yes, sport, I am prepared for any debate regarding whether poker should be considered a sport or not). Thanks Andrew for this amazing video series. What I really liked the most about this series was your split between slides and actual hands. I learn best visually, so seeing your concept slides first and then you applying those principals with the replayer was PERFECT! Keep it up man.
