i never had much of a value target so i decided to check in hopes for v to catch up. If i was going to create a value target it would probably be a hand like KK, but most players will 3-bet this. So i guess maybe QQ/TT/99 and stuff like that i could get value from.

OfflineSeems to me that if he has anything that will give you value, any PP, any KQ type hand, will give you at least two streets of value. I don't think I'd check both the flop and turn. I think betting the flop, then checking the turn will probably be the most profitable if he has anything he's willing to play.
