Hey folks was playing a cash game before a tournament (which I never do but decided to), and it had gone 3 or 4 orbits when I got this hand, this is how it went down.

V very loose losing lots of chips calling with air and low pair, folding 3/4 times after 2 or 3 bets in all positions.

Hero very tight image, has played 2 hands in the 3.5 orbits, one of these hands showed QQ at showdown, the second showed KJs at showdown with 2 pair.

Not played in a hand against V, I like to play super tight till I find the fish, sometimes it’s easy, sometimes the fish lurk in the murk.

1/2 NL hold’em

full table of 9 @Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood FL.

SB $130

BB $125

UTG $85

Hero $135

MP $140

MP+1 $65

HJ $390

CO $210

BTN $100

Pre-Flop action

BTN Straddled, 3 Folds Hero KspadeQspaderaises to $10, 4 folds BTN calls

Flop: 4spade8heartJclub

Hero bets $15 BTN calls

Turn: 2spade

Hero bets $25 BTN calls

River: 9club

Hero Checks, BTN Checks

What Kind of hand range do we get on the V here? Does my betting look small, big or right? Any other advice?

If I won could I have gotten more chips, If I lost could I have done anything different?

Straddle is $4 on the button, correct? And the blinds act first if the button straddles? He’s calling $6 with $17 in the pot (less rake) already, plus he is in position. Combined with his image (again, great description), his range is near 100% pre.

Flop play makes sense to me, but if you bet a little less it makes check-shoving the turn easier if a 10, ace, or spade hits. Let’s say you bet $10 instead on the flop. Now there’s $43 in the pot, and he has $85 behind.

Most important thing is to raise bigger pre. Like, you describe this guy as very loose, then you barely put any money in the pot at all with a strong hand?

I agree. Where I play the $1/$2 straddle is $5 and if the regular open is $7-$12 the straddle open is $12-$17… Essentially adding the full $5 in to whatever you’d open with. $10 is the same as a limp with a straddle on. If 1-2+ limp the straddle then I wouldn’t open for less than $17-$20.
