Hey Hey

Lets test your knowledge. I think many players will fold in certain spots when we really should be getting our CHIPS in!!! That’s right don’t be folding hands like Q2o in certain situations, they are really are stronger then they look!. OK so lets get this partaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay started! 😀

This is just an example i made up from scratch just wanted to find out your thoughts which hands do you push over this raise? you have no fold equity.

blinds $100/$200 (20)

HJ has $5000 opens 400 , they open 31% of hands, they are loose opponent.

hero is on button shoves for $1,200

total pot $1680
v has to call $800

so you need to win 1,680/800 = 33% of the time. all we have to do now is figure out which hands has more then 33% equity against 31% of hands. we want higher then 33% equity because that’s the break even point. Also you
have to worry about the blinds picking up a hand which will happen from time to time. so you need around
37% equity against V 31% r/c range.

hands as weak as 56s suited has like 38% equity, does this mean it would be okay to shove this pre? even so we don’t
have hardly any fe?

If they were opening 50% of hands here , a hand like Q2o would have 37% equity lol, seems pretty insane to shove these hands over a raise? again as we don’t have any FE. I’m guessing we can fold the bottom of our range here and much rather shove a hand like J9o instead or a hand that has some sorta std?

thoughts on this?

cheers.

If the blinds fold and V calls, pot will be 2700, of which you’ve contributed 1200, so you need 1200/2700 = 44.44% if you knew blinds were going to fold. But yeah, HRC exists to solve exactly this sort of problem for you, and it will do a much better job of accounting for the blinds’ behavior.

ty for pointing that out, i was figuring out V pot odd dammitt :\

we are pretty much risking 1200 to win whats in the total pot. so we need 44.4% , i’d say we need around 48% , we would like to do better then break even. A hand like KTs has 49% equity vs v 31% r/c range. So that’s a shove.

If they were to open say 50% of hands yeah , K7s would have 48% equity which is way above break even. So im just wondering are you shoving this even so you know you dont have fold equity since you know its profitable or are you going to fold the bottom of your shoving range here?

Fold equity isn’t essential, it’s just something that helps out hands that don’t have enough raw equity to get all in based on their showdown value alone. However, I think you’re underestimating the effect that the blinds waking up with hands will have on the profitability of this play. If you are jamming as wide as you should be, the big blind doesn’t need a premium hand to get involved.

I am Yes, if however we had an exploitable read that big blind was really tight , it would then be ok as played?
