    Love it!

Im actually only half way through it but I had to pause so I can say that THIS is how you make a training video. Poker doesn’t have to be a grind. It can be fun and I love guys like Cory who are excited about the game like I am. Reminds me of the first time I watched one of Marc’s vids. This is the type of vid that will get me to turn off SportsCenter and pay attention.

I was a teacher for 5 years and this is how I engaged middle school kids. We had a saying, “students won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Cory does not sound bored or forced. Seems to be having fun reviewing this.

Good job bringing him aboard TPE. 10 Stars.

Seems like he is having fun playing the game for sure, which is refreshing to see. It is not at all robotic in nature, so I appreciate the material. I don’t necessarily agree with all of the plays, but it is tough to argue against as he won the tourney. Great job here. Nice work.

Thought provoking for sure. I like it. I agree with the above poster, fun style kept me really focused throughout. I enjoyed watching.

The playing style is definitely a deviation from the norm. I’m not going to just start doing everything you are doing but this is the type of video series that I feel like can take ones play from one level to another by opening up ones views of poker.

Too often I find myself getting in a rut with my thought, logic, and playing style in poker and these are the types of videos and insight that can spark some original thought (did you like how i used the word spark?)

  4. Foucault

No, though I may have open limped. I think the main value of raising small pairs in early position when deep-stacked is to protect yourself against getting bluffed on boards like 459, and I’m not too worried about that happening in an MTT.

  5. Foucault

Whoops, had this open alongside a few of my videos and thought this was a comment directed at me. But FWIW, those are my thoughts on small pairs in early position 😉

thank you i appreciate that!! I had a blast making this series and couldn’t agree more with your saying. If the person you’re trying to learn from isn’t enthusiastic and excited about what they’re teaching then it just starts to feel like a boring lecture in college that you can’t wait to end, instead of looking forward to the next lesson and excited to learn more. If you make poker fun then imo it makes you WANT to learn more instead of feeling forced to bc you keep losing. lol Stay tuned the series gets wayyy better , thanks again for the comment.

Thanks for the comment bud! I always try to have fun while playing and one way i keep it fresh is just by not taking the “standard” line every time. Push the boundaries and be willing to think outside the box then you will never get bored!

  8. MJ23STYLEz

haha i see what you did there ;P I dont recommend just immediately trying these plays w/o experience but by watching someone play the same game w/ a different thought process will def help take you to a higher level in poker (do you like how i used the word higher?) lol thanks for the comment bud, u a funny guy

In general this is probably going to happen a lot where I can’t really give you a yes or no answer bc the way I play is so table dependent and image-based. I’m pretty sure w/ 100bbs i would have opened in that spot but if that were the case then I probably wouldn’t have had as active of an image and closer to a starting stack still to work with. More or less it was just an instinct based fold bc I felt like there was a good chance of me getting 3 bet when i open in EP. In saying that I didn’t wanna just limp/call strictly to set mine w/ a pair as low as 5s OOP, so I chose to just fold. There will be a bunch more interesting limp spots in the later vids. Thanks for the comment Mike!

I’m originally from Long Island, NY but have lived most of my life in the Carolinas, currently in Wilmington, NC. Although I seem to have developed a bit of a country accent these last few years I’ll always be a Yankee! 😉

There are definitely some unorthodox plays here but the last person who used the words “gameflow”, “image” and the phrase “not sure why I do this but I will win this pot when they give up” is bigdogpckt5s and he wins everything!

I’m really looking forward to the mid-late stages of this tourney. I’ve a feeling the end stages will be really interesting

  12. shutEMdown

Id deff recommend playing without the hud sometimes, if you guys use it all the time…just give yourself a breather from the numbers side of the game and play the “feel” side. I like Cory’s game overall for sure. even if you dont agree with some of his plays, just see it for what it is…eventually we all have our own style but being able to steal some stuff here and there which will improve our game is what this is all about.

This is my 1st time posting a comment on this website. I have to say it , i hate watching hand history reviews video…but this guy it’s amazing, funny and the most importing NOT BORING. keep up the good words and looking forward to knew videos and maybe some live sweats.

  14. LazyNinja

this vid cracked me up. love your style of commentary. very fluid, non rehearsed in the moment kind of. Nice. ” I would like to see a larget bet here with jacks. I just limp” Ha

  15. MJ23STYLEz

thanks bud i appreciate you leaving a comment! I def plan on doing some live sweat vids in the future but currently having a TON of problems w/ the laptop i just bought but ill be sure to put in some live sweat recording sessions when i get it back. thanks again!

*btw DO NOT GET WINDOWS 8!!! grrrrrrrr

There are some awful lines taken in this vid. The JJ l/c oop may be the worst.
Commentary/ flow is pretty good and I will watch the rest of the series.

  17. MJ23STYLEz

awful or just very different then how you would ever play it??? appreciate the honestly nonetheless, i def expected some people to not agree with my style

  18. andinista

I’m down with unorthodox 4xing and limping all positions. But good live players make limping so effective because they employ l/raising often. That JJ hand would have been such a sweet l/r pre spot. Instead, you trapped and somehow his holdings and the runout transpired so that you got 2 little streets of value and it looked OK. But its awful.

  19. MJ23STYLEz

I respect your opinion but def disagree. By limp/calling there im choosing to play my hand that way for a number of reasons. If I limp/raise in that spot then my hand is now almost turned face up an says “hiiii, i limped with a big one!” So I continued with my fishy looking limp line to severely under rep my hand an take it to a flop OOP. Like i said in the vid “limping could also look like a form of tilt to some people” bc i had just lost the prior pot. I feel that by taking more of my hands to the flop, especially OOP, I help minimize the variance and am able to get away from the hand if needed as well as get much more value than I ever would have if I played it the “standard” way. So in that hand specifically that’s what i chose to do and I’m sorry you think it’s “awful” but we all play different bud. In my opinion ABC poker will only get you but so far now a days with how much this game has grown. There’s 23 other letters in the alphabet man!! Play some “PQR poker” and try to think outside the box, I promise you it keeps the game so much more interesting and fun. But best of luck, hope u enjoy the rest of the series and the terrible lines i take 🙂

  20. LoMo

Awesome video! I actually enjoyed watching unlike other training videos I’ve seen. I think you have an interesting style. I totally agree that you can’t play ABC all the time- it’s too predictable. I will definitely incorporate some of these techniques into my game. Well done.

Best video in the “Early Stages” portion of the course so far. Love the style of play and the commentary as well. Short, sweet and to the point. Great stuff. Gonna binge-watch this series tonight for sure.
