i played every form of poker from cash to sit and gos and mtt's.  i try to find something to grind but cant seem to make consistent money.  I just have so much stress and can't bring myself to believe your success depends on the random number generator.  I can't seem to breakthrough in anything.  I know the games are harder but how are the pros making a living grinding out small 0-5% roi's?  I put so much time and effort and money into trying to become a pro so I can play poker for a living.  I can beat micros to a point and then when the rng decides I can't keep winning, i lose every 60-40 and 70-30 both ways around nonstop.  I don't know what to do already, i'm so sick of playing micro mtt's for 8+ hours only to take a horrible beat and min cash, I can't afford to play higher stakes, I can't find a form of poker that I can consistently beat.   I mean I hear of guys getting staked and coached until they breakthrough but I don't know, I'm just ready to give up because I'm getting discouraged with players getting better and when I play good my hands never hold up.  Tired of wasting my days away with nothing to show.

I hear you and feel your pain bro. I have many a time felt and thought as you do.  When I get like this I take some time away from the game but I always come back simply because I love poker.   I still believe there is light at the end of the tunnel. I'll never be a pro and I accept that but I truly believe if you study the game like your currently doing and give a fair and honest self assessment of your play you will grow and will make some cash playing. Dont get hung up on losing the 60-40, focus on the fact that you made the right play and its then beyond your control. Dont give up hang in there, nothing in this world comes without a fight and you have an army here at TPE willing to fight right along with you.

Don't in anyway take this the wrong way (truly don't) but not everyone is going to be a pro….it's just a fact. Fox actually wrote an article about the very topic on pocketfives. Now…I'm not telling you not to pursue your goal if your dead set on it, but maybe its a good idea to step away, get a job (if you don't have one) and keep going on poker. If it falls into place…great, if not…you hopefully are in a field of work you enjoy.

Believe me I've had the same grand dream you probably have….professional poker player, playing in all these great live tournies, making a TV final table…etc….but man I tell you I hated poker when I had that level of pressure. Now, I just honestly want to win….for the sake of winning. I still get frustrated, I still want to punch the wall sometimes….but in the end, its all good. I go to sleep, I wake up, I go to my job….I slack off and and log on to TPE….I mean I work hard Wink and then I come home and enjoy some poker….either in study or playing. Now, in some F'd up world I actually become a solid winning player and start making money….hey, all the better.Oh, and yeah I spend some time with my wife when time allows.

So anyway, not trying to drag down your dream here. If you really want to go pro….go for it man! However, you have to stay focused and really find an outlet to deal with the bad beat and the endless non-cash tournies. Take some time off….1 week nothing poker related, next couple weeks just vids, books…etc.

Anyway…hope it all works out.

You could always become part of the Chinese DoN conspiracy :/

Serious answer, though … SnG's and cash are definitely harder than they were a couple years ago so you need to do work to succeed.

If you're playing large field micro mtt's there is a massive amount of variance. Anyone playing these is essentially hoping for a single win or a couple final tables so they can finally get the hell out of there and move up to larger buy-ins and smaller fields.

One thing I've recommended to people is to get coached on how to beat 50 nl and 100 nl. The coaches are often pretty cheap, especially newer ones, and you can verify their success through PokerTableRatings and watching them play for a bit before paying them a dime.

MTT coaching and sites like this are awesome, too. I'm just saying you need to find something to reduce your variance which is usually SnG's or cash games.
