Hi Jamie Glazier/Dare2Dream

This forum is coming in handy. laugh

At the beginning of this month, we had some financially problems. Our horses got sick and we had to pay the vet. So I redraw almost my whole bankroll. Leaving me only $100. Thinking to myself, that I could grind it back from there, playing SnG’s from 18 player to 180 player. I was confident with my high ROI, that I could play $4.40 and $3.30 and still get it growing. But I started loosing. And as my bankroll got smaller, the pressure on me raised. Badbeats suddenly affected me. I got frustrated and despondent.

I now have $15 left.

I am going to deposit $100 and start grinding $1 and lower MTT SnG’s.

But before I start playing again, I have to work on my mental state.

How would you suggest I should do it?

How should I setup my mind, to play at the lower stakes? I am use to play $4.40-$20 tournaments and it can be difficult to take the lower stakes seriously. How can I get myself see it as buyins and not $.

I'll chime in since I have some experience in this area.

Here is my 2 cents for what it is worth.

1. Don't deposit $100.  Instead make yourself sweat it out.  This is painful, I know.  I had .60 at one point and worked it way up there.  When I had the .60 I went to the 1c/2c limit table and played as best as I could.  Of course it is likely you will get wiped out there with .60, but with $15, you have several options that are within that exact bankroll.  Play the very lowest stakes you can find.  If you can't turn the $15 into $100, you are most likely not going to be able to do well with a $100 deposit regardless of your past results.

2. Create a small goal.  A great goal for $15 would be to get it to $30 in a week or 2.  Very small goal, small time frame to achieve it in.  High chance of success.  When you complete that goal, set another small goal.

3. Have a big goal in mind.  Your small goals have to lead up to something, and having that big goal helps to motivate you because you know that each small goal success gets you closer to that big goal.

4. Play strict strict bankroll management.

Good luck!  You can do it! 🙂

First off you can't let outside disturbances bother your play.  I'd walk away from the tables for a bit untill your hungry again.  You'll never play your best if your thinking about the dollars and not the game.  I went from $25 bucks to 2k in 3 months.  And then had my daughter.  I pulled all my profit less $135 and just started back last month.  Now i'm back over 600.  You can do it as well but you have to have a clear head to do it.  Its probably not what you want to hear but it might be the fix you need.

Eske,

The advise from jsonmez and checkraizer1 is great, so take that into account.

You also have to create a totally new mindset in regards to the stakes you will now be playing. You may not be aware of it, but most likely there is a lingering dislike for your situation as well as some doubt for whether or not you can build it back up. These thoughts or emotions will come out in a strong way if things dont go well, as you have already experienced.

So you have to RESTART all over again. Think that this is the very first deposit that you have ever made and you are super excited about building it up via the small stakes that your bankroll will allow.

If you can RESTART your attitude to your NEW situation, and approach it like it is your first and exciting attempt at building up a roll, I am sure you will have a much improved mindset.

Make sure you are also patient, extremely important!!!!!!

GL:)

Thanks for the advise.

I had taken the last 10 days off from poker. Just spending the time with my familly, friends and pets. Watching some of the sites videos and making some HH review, from when I still where winning. Just to get my play back to the playingstyle, that I know where working for me. Getting my tilt game removed from my mind.

I had planned to make a deposit at the end of this week. But last night, I was in the mood for playing some poker. So I had the $15 and I was just looking to get a fun session. Not thinking about getting my bankroll build. I had planned to start my project later this week, so I could just spend the $15 without any expectations. So I started a $5 3 table SNG, $5 2 table SNG and a $3 2 table SNG.

While I waited for them to start up. I was looking in some of the other pokerclients I have. On a pokerclient on Ipoker, there where a freeroll starting up. A freeroll only for players who had signed themselves through a Danish pokerforum. which I had done. 44 players and $2000 added. Top 5 gets paid.

I won the $5 3 table SNG and cashed $50. I also won the freeroll and cashed $800.

So my bankroll building project is going to start a little differentsmile

When I was playing without any expectations. I feld that I could play with a free mind. Taking +EV decisions and not worrying what would happend, if I dont cash in this “one”.

Time away from the game is definitely one of my biggest downfalls.  I just
took the last couple of months off last year for some serious personal stuff
going on, and when I returned I was simply amazed at the difference in my
game.  Even though I hadn't been playing, I am ALWAYS thinking about the
game.  I was able to come back with a clearer head, different strategies,
and a calm and patience that I may have never had if it wasn't for the
break.  It was surprisingly amazing how much better I was playing, how
free my mind was and in fact, maybe the best I was ever playing in my life!
If you had talked to me last year and suggested I took a break, it would of
never of happened, and it ended up being one of the best things that happened
to me!  It's easy for me not to take breaks because I don't have a job or
any family that prevent most people from doing just that.  I wouldn't tell
people to take a couple of months off like I had too, but the amount of time
you took off might have just been perfect!

Congrats on your scores and hope the BR thing goes wonderful for you!!
