Made it to day two of event 2 at the WSOP circuit at Potowatomi.  Started the day with 17 bb.  Was down to 12bb, when I picked up A8o in the cutoff.  I had jammed four times over the first two levels and only won the blinds. AK and AQ utg and K6 and KQ suited from the button, those were the only four hands I had played.  With A8o I jammed and the button called with AQ and I was knocked out in 50th out of 1098.  I believe jamming here is right but looking for thoughts.  Thanks in advance for your comments.

Additional info.  Button had about 15 bb and was very tight I don’t really recall him playing a hand.  SB and big blind both had around 40BBs and had been relatively active.

I think your shove is fine. I would have played a little tighter if the blinds were active.  Unfortunately, the Button woke up with a hand. You say you had 12bbs? Did they have the big blind Ante in play?

No, just standard ante around the table.

There’s no need to guess about a spot like this. You can get an app called SnapShove (there are other tools for this as well, but if you’re new to it then this is a good one to start with) that will show you unexploitable shoving ranges for various stack sizes and positions. There are reasons to adjust those ranges depending on players behind you, but it gives you a starting point. For this spot, shoving any Ace would be profitable, so you were just (slightly) unlucky to run into AQ and lose to it.

Thanks for the responses.  Yep, I thought about SnapShove after my post.  So many tools are available now compared to 10 years ago.  Still getting my arms around all the is available.
