You have to give him credit for a hand here, he isn’t calling your 4bet with air, I don’t expect him to fold a pair TT-QQ, also don’t expect him to fold AsQs, so cbetting here is just throwing away money given his range here.

I think once again you are causing your self a lot of post-flop problems with your bet sizing preflop.  You’ve done very little to define his hand range with such a small 4 bet.  With AK I’d like to just call his 3 bet or 4 bet to 3k so he doesn’t just flat me and then I’m stuck like this post-flop 50%+ of the time.

If we make it like 3k, then he’s probably going to shove or fold.  Much better than playing this hand OOP.  If he does flat you on a 3k 4-bet you can make a good case for leading on all flops with a pot size bet and calling if he shoves on you (you’ll be getting odds I think).

I think you can also just call his 3 bet and c/f non A or K flops to reduce variance.

yeah you more or less minraised preflop, which i don’t really like OOP. i don’t think it’s awful or anything, but i think you make the hand much easier to play by going 2.5-3x from OOP.

i’m not sure i’d 3bet as large as 3k, but certainly ~2500 preflop.

and looking at stacks i think that ron makes a great point that you can just flat the 3bet. especially if we have no idea what his 3betting range is or how he reacts to 4bets–namely will he call or shove worse?–then i prefer a flat.

if you feel his range for 3betting your UTG open here is very tight you can just fold preflop.  4bet/getting it in will usually be bad unless you feel he’s spazzy and will get in worse than QQ+AK+ but for the most part unless you have been very active you can feel comfortable about pitching this pre… flatting his 3bet OOP will usually lead you to check/folding flops you miss and not getting any value on the flops you hit.
