Hey everyone,

just wanted to get some thoughts on what seems to be a problem i keep having with my game. Just generally speaking i find myself raising then c betting somewhat early in tournaments, and then getting re-raised big or just called down when i don't hit any sort of hand on the flop. I typically play pretty tight early on but should i be playing even tighter and not cbetting missed hands in the early stages?

probably a newb questions but just wondering if anyone had any tips or advice.

Thanks!

If you are playing pretty tight your range should be a lot of value, so why is getting raised necessarily a bad thing?

In determining when to cbet you have to think about a lot of differnt things, whats their range, whats my range(imporntant in sucessful bluffs and getting max value), what am I repping, what is my future plans(if I am bluffing flop, will I have a lot of good runouts that make my bluff more effective? You cant go from repping a strong pair to repping a flush, etc.), but most improtnatly imo, is what are my reads on villain, and what are his likely perceptions of me.  Once you consider all of these you should be able to get an answer on whetehr to bet or cehck your value or bluffs dpening on board and table flow.  its ahrd to give a genreic answer to this Question though.

In general when trying to take down pots you missed with a cbet you should be focusing on betting off fit or fold players and betting flops that hit your rnage more than theirs(high cards when opponent is BB for example)

I think a lot of players like to try and see a lot flops in the early stages and with deep stacks you are more likely to get floated too so as CCuster911 says you need to have a plan and not just fire out cbets. If you're playing a low buyin and you find your in a multiway pot and miss the flop I think a cbet is often just a waste of chips particularly if it's a draw heavy board.
