Villain in this hand has been aggressive prior to making the FT.   So,  my plan was 3bet/call but he flats making the hand difficult post.

I bet the flop thinking that he's got a pair <KK often and has to let go and I don't want to check behind allowing him to bluff turns and rivers and forcing me to call two bets.  Plus the flush draw is out there.  Inside straight draw is there too but not sure how often he has JQ/QT/JT (probably very rarely).

Once he calls the flop I give up but not sure if i could have played this hand differently.  Thoughts?

You could flat and induce the sb or bb to shove, and if the or re-shoves to isolate you can get away from your tens.

With that turn not helping to strengthen your range any, I don't think there is any other way you can play it.  Check the flop and you lose this pot pretty much everytime you don't turn a ten regardless of what he has.  Plus if you chk the flop, it might cost you more on the river than your 82k cb anyway if turn and river are both bricks. Wp imo

I don't think these guys are squeeze bluffing from the blinds about 5 hands into the FT with no reads.  Is that really going to happen often enough to lose focus on the OR?

I think most of it is how I would have played it….maybe a bit smaller on the C-bet…I think 72-75Kish does the same thing…..

i think what's more important than how aggro he is is how aggro he thinks you are and if you two have any history (when deciding whether to 3b/call or flat the first raise). this early at a FT with your stack i much prefer a flat. i'm curious if even with an aggro dynamic 3b/calling can be that good with 34BB at an 8-handed FT when you're the one calling the shove? i kind of doubt it.

otherwise i think you played it fine.

We played the whole last table together and were the most aggressive players which is why I was setting up a 3bet/call.  Still bad?

it's just such high variance and you're more or less at the bottom of your range–you wouldn't be inducing with 99 would you? im not saying its -cEV and i'm sure its +cEV, but ICM is real and it plays a much bigger role in calling shoves than in making them. so in effect, by 3betting to induce, you are giving villain any ICM edge there is by making you call it off.

i'm a pretty big advocate of playing tight at FTs from 9-handed down to 5/4-handed.

For me I think I would have flatted the pre-flop. I know when I am hitting the gas and going max aggro flats drive me nuts since they give me a fuzzier (or what I believe is a fuzzier) picture of my opponents range. Doing that you could have more credibility for an AQo/AJs type hand and with that flop you C-bet could potentially be more effective (unless he is holding onto AK, then you are going to get played back at).

As a followup question what hand do you put him on with his betting line? His line looks a lot like Ax type hand, but I can't be sure without any other information. Do you think there is any reasonable chance he is sitting on QT?

The hand seems fine and I would have folded too, just curious what the pot sized bet on the river looks like to you.

I think you played the hand fine. It sounds as if you have a lot of history with villan from playing from two tables down so he very well could 4b jam you really light if he knows you are capable of 3b him here wide.  I think I like a flat pre because I tend to have the same thinking as Hagbard and play pretty tight till we get down to about 6 handed, then really amp up the aggression. By flatting it also gives your hand a ton of deception value and you may be able to extract more value out of villian on a different board textures.
