Hey guys , i really feel my game is improving. still i think i don't play the best i can in the last 18.

i am not sure why is that. i know i need to take chances at this point. specially when i am short. but apparently i am not doing so. don't sure why. maybe because i think it is the wrong move to to it now ( i can wait for better spot ), or just because i don't  want to bust yet…
will be glad to hear some good advises.
( please don't write in this post  ” take a coach ” – i know i have this option. )
Thanks,

How big are the MTTs you're playing in?  Are you in the money at 18?  Are the pay jumps relevant or meaningless?  How are the blind structures?  When you are shortstacked does that mean 7BB, 15BB, or 25BB?  In general, I don't think the play changes very much at 18 in most of the tourney's I play on Merge.  Maybe the best advice would be to stop checking the lobby and just play the game.  You don't really need to know you're at 18 unless the bubble is 15.

ok the game is 11$ on stars. 108 pays.

i would like to get an opinion about this hand :

Poker Stars $10+$1 No Limit Hold'em Tournament – t2500/t5000 Blinds + t500 – 9 players – View hand 2143979
TournamentPokerEdge.com Hand History Converter

li0nka (BB): BB = 17.5, t87558
Blond Imp (UTG): BB = 24.0, t119928
AndiM64 (UTG+1): BB = 35.2, t176137
Grigsharowka (UTG+2): BB = 38.7, t193512
Hero (MP1): BB = 23.2, t116232
RistaSM (MP2): BB = 24.9, t124630
dzjeszt (CO): BB = 18.7, t93647
DEESGOTCHA (BTN): BB = 23.2, t115990
dodo765 (SB): BB = 21.9, t109610

Pre Flop: (t12000) Hero is MP1 with
3 folds, Hero raises to t11450, RistaSM calls t11450, 3 folds, li0nka raises to t87058 all in, 2 folds

15 left

i am not worried at all about the flater…  he is kind of donky. the all in guy is rock. i think he was on 10/10 on 55 hands or so. maybe even less. didnt do something special until now. my image is rock also. i guess he know i am tight . my question is : which hand you will call here ?

(  will be nice to hear from the pro here also  🙂   )

thanks,

When you say donk, is this the type of donk who limp/folds a lot or the type of donk who will get it in with TK here?

If he folds, you only need 40.5% to call.  If we put villain on TT+, AQ+, you need JJ+, AK to call.  If we put villain on 88+,AJs,KQs,then you need 99+, AQ+ to call.  Any 3-betting stats for this guy yet?  I know not a lot of hands so far.

Then again, if donk is likely to call worse here, then high cards do better.

How do you feel edge-wise vs. the field at this point?  If you lose here, you are down to fewer than 6BB, so if you're feeling good about your skill level on this field, you can tighten up even more.

Without more info, I think I'm calling JJ+, AK here.

yes most likely RistaSM will fold. i am not sure about li0nka range, but i feel like it is worst then if it was just against me. i mean because there is more dead money in the pot, because of the flatter, his squeeze can be with worst hand then if it was only against me.

about the other players, from what i saw, nothing is special about them. but i am so short that i cant really do any thing at this point other then push/fold.  i felt like i needed to take more chances.

By the way, my 2nd range was supposed to say 88+,AJ+,KQs, which is 7.1% of hands.  I know his stats are only from 55 hands, but if he's opening 10%, I doubt he's squeezing with more than that.  Yes, there are some nice chips in there, but there's also some strength been shown.

ok by my math you need to call 75608 to win 121,958 so you need minimum 38.27% to break even obviously you dont want to break even so i would say you need like 40% here imo you open faily early utg+3 get 1 flat which you say your not worried about and then the bb shoves, the bb has 17bb considering you open from fairly early postion with 23bb and you say your image is a rock im not to sure what range the bb has here so i will do a couple of ranges if hes shoving KQs+,AJo+,ATs+,55+ you can call with AJs+,AQo+,77+ if hes a bit more nitty and shoving AQo+,AJs+,88+ then you can call AQs+,AKo+,99+ it all depends on what his range is.

Don't be upset with yourself.  Folding 88 seems fair to me.  If I make a mistake in an MTT i want it to be an aggressive mistake and not a “calling off my chips” mistake.  I think there are much better spots to get your money in as the aggressor.  Another poster said JJ+ and AK, and i think that seems good to me.

dont see myself folding there 88 too often.

and tbh think most of the ranges are way to tight

he can easily ship there any pair, any suited A, A9o+, KTs+,KJo+, JTs,T9s,98s

and becuase of the stack sizes he should probably shove even wider

yea i think i have to call here. i am short. bb time is short. need to take every chance i have. he can have ak aq aj a10 kqs 77 66 that i am ok with.

the problem is that after that hand i had nothing for like 10 hands, then shove 44 and called by a4.

often the play with 18 left involves a lot more better players on average than the rest of the tourney (think about it, better players go further on average than worse ones).  its likely a combination of some variance, some small mistakes youre making, and the fact that your opponents dont suck as much on average as they did in previous tables.

dont be too hard on yourself, also i'd prob call the 88 there

Hi bro.

There are too many things that are really important when youre at 18 left.

– ICM.

– Tourney and blind structure( flar or heavy).

– Type of players ( good, standard, fishes, regular players)

– My position in the tourney.

Above you have to know when to move and when to fold and watch the action, identifying their ranges, the move worth, what about if I move and lose and if I win.

The special thing here is to wait for a profitable spot and where you feel comfortable, always asking why am I gonna do that move.

You have done a good job so far and wait other players bust first, Dont make stupid moves on this stage because it cost a lot and it is really painfull to lose a tourney at this part.

Gl and continue doing a good job.spadecool
