How do I range Killingbird here and is there a way to get more value from this hand. I really did not do much thinking when this hand came up as his stack was short I assumed he would probably not be bluffing / shoving the river. I remember thinking that when the turn hit and he checked that I should bet to ‘build a pot’ but this is probably flawed thinking. Thoughts?

– edit – had chat turned off but in the replayer kb said that he picked up a flush draw on the turn but decided to ‘let me off lucky’. Perhaps he had something like KJc or A10c?

If hes checking the turn he probably had his mind made up that he was giving up on this hand. Perhaps an over bet but really I feel like he had his mind made up and theres nothing you could do to extract value.

i don’t know what’s worse, you checking back this flop, or KB folding if he actually picked up a club draw.  KB’s a nit btw, always assume he’s got at least JJ

I managed to find this HH, so I remember what I had now.  I’ll wait in case there is more discussion before revealing though.

first things first….. 3bet, 3bet, 3bet!!!! u’ve got a monster. no need to slow play. make standard cbet on flop….. as played since ur tryn to trap i think u bet the flop when checkd to u. maybe he shoves putting u on air or maybe he shoves w/ 99, 10s or jj. Only way to gain value is too put money in pot.

I def bet flop if I am you.  It is likely that he is not giving up with a mid-pocket pair here or a Q, and the board is so dry that he is either going to be paying you off, or he won’t be.

While from a deceptive standpoint it is important to slowplay, you also have to find spots to put money in the pot and try to cash in on your deceptiveness pre-flop.

seems im the only one thats for a 3bet. is this the wrong strategic approach against a short stack. if he is strong he will get it in. if he is weak he’s likely folding pre.

I agree on re-raisining preflop to the  350 – 400 range.

Would we not assume hes is folding a lot of the time to a 3bet, so this would possibly not be the most optimal way of extracting chips?

I’d 3bet pf because my perception of most pros is that they do no like raise folding at 18bbs. I could be wrong though. However, I see some of you guys thinking that checking the flop is an outrageous mistake, but with a psr of 2.6 you only  think him to be check giving up i’d check wanting to give him a chance to catch a piece or bluff at the pot. If you often delay cbet your air then I’d go ahead and check too for balance. For the most part though I’d bet the flop expecting him to call with 8x, 99 – JJ and the occasional tricky played Qx.
