Folded here to a 3bet; feel like I probably should have cold called in position. Maybe have this hand, a few other AJs type hands, few pairs like 88-TT, then 4bet/f like AQo and maybe flat AK? or 4bet/c those probably close either way. Thoughts on strategy here?

Also the positions are hard to read below; HJ+1 (kinda weaker player) opened, HJ 3bet (quite laggy preflop 3betting etc.) and I’m on the button.

Strongly dislike cold flatting 3-bets in general unless you’re super deep, but at this stack size it’s particularly bad.

There’s going to be 14.3bb in the pot even if the original raiser folds (which they almost certainly won’t) and I doubt you ever get it in on the flop against worse, meaning you’re either just trying to realise equity when you flop a draw or winning a small pot with top pair, or getting stacked, or missing and folding.

You’re also probably going to have to fold away all your equity on the 10-20% of occasions that the original raiser shoves over the 3-bet and flat.

I think it’s fine to play essentially shove or fold here with 36bb, or you can just cold 4-bet super small to like 11bb with something like top 3% and then AQo or something to balance. Not a huge fan of that though, I don’t think you get a lot of folds given the odds the 3-bettor is getting and then of course you have like 1 PSB left on the flop. I think jam or fold here is fine, I imagine villain struggles to fold any of the value portions of their 3-betting range since jamming 36bb looks kinda weak, so doing it with top 4-5% and folding the rest is fine.
