Fulltilt “Rush” tournament  $3.30 rebuy/ 12K

Reads:  Villain seems to be loose-passive, although i  have seen him check raise a couple of wet flops…

25th place/ 50 runners left (108 places paid)

Post-flop is probably quite standard, pre-flop is where i have issues playing these small pocket pairs, i had been dumping a few of my baby pairs in early position and found myself wanting to either ship or dump my 7's Vs the BBs  wide calling range.

(66-JJ, A6s+, A8o+, K9+, Q9+)

Instead of going with my gut, like an idiot i raise 3x knowing i'm pretty much flipping against his range, well almost…. (54%-ish),

As soon as he  min-check-raises the flop, i was certain he was sitting on a flushdraw, although a pair of jacks had crossed my mind…

So the questions i have are…  1) Should i completely erradicate 77/88 from the bottom of my range to avoid spots like this?

                                           2) Can i ever consider folding to his C/R with 75% equity on a flop like this in order to preserve my stack or should i just ” fistpump get it in”?

                                           3) Should i maybe raise bigger pre-flop? Bet bigger post-flop?  or just rip it in/fold? (pre)

Many thanks in advancesmile

Im a bit confused…you have middle set here.  I get this in as fast as I can.  Looking back at the hand, and that it is a rush tourney, I would just min raise with your stack.  You are going to get the same information than 3xing…By 3xing you are only bloating the pot pre, and are going to miss the flop the majority of the time, and going to have to give up a lot.  However, with the way played, you smashed the flop, and the only hand that beats you here is JJ.  If the villain has JJ, then gg.  I 3 bet his min raise prepared to get it in.  By the c bet sizing on the flop, you are giving the villain tool equity for him to spew.  I hope that this helps.  Best of luck at the tables.

terbet11 has this spot on. 3 bet to induce and rip it in!

And his advice pre flop is also worth listening too 🙂

Let us know what the villian had in due course. I take it you lost the hand? He have a flush draw? It's just UL.

Hey,

I think it's a perfectly fine play except for the raise size. I will open to 3x pre antes from every position, but once antes kick in, i will scale it back a notch to 2.1-2.2x or so.

I think you are certainly deep enough to play 77 from MP, and even if limping is an option, you want to raise to build a pot in case you hit. It also adds value to other hands in your range from that pos, by adding deceptive value.

If you have a stack of 40+BBs, i would play all baby pairs, limping from UTG and UTG+1 and calling a raise when I have sufficient implied. I will raise probably from MP on. Folding baby pairs in EP is quite fine too and I do that all the time with a 20-25BB stack.

As played, you are loving life on this flop. I would not look to slow play, as you have the read that this guy is passive. His min raise on the flop is almost always letting you know he's ready to play for stacks, so I would raise it back and call shove, or shove a non club turn if flatted. He might have JJ some % of the time, but if that is the case, then so be it, I will happily stack off with 77 in this spot.

Agree with all posts, but would add that not only should you remove the 3x from you game at these blind levels, but also take notes on  others who 3x (and 4x, etc.) rarely will you find that they are good players, and you can then exploit them.

i would be minraising given the eff stack at the table, also for villain to overcall JJ here happens <1% of the time here, you have the effective nuts get it in.
