Hey everyone.
There are these live games at my city and they are pretty soft and profitable games, as more I go to them I see some familiar faces, but most of them are recreational as the casino opened just recently.
Games go from 10-500 eiro buyins and I ussually go to the lower limits 10-30eiros. Its only 2 tables there so you could say its a mtt sng, but a lot of these tourneys are with rebuys.
I think I have a good edge against most of the players, sometimes its like 2 or 3 players who run the table, everyone else is just tightening up and adjusting to them.
Question is, how do you think I could become better at these games, any experienced low stake live games players ?
There is only 1 table and you play maybe like 15-20 hands an hour, what strategy changes should I make from online poker?
Thanks

The main adjustment I would make is based on the low hands/hour compared to online poker, and pay close attention to what’s going on when you’re not in a hand. Are there reliable tells like people touching chips when they’re weak? Is someone to your left telegraphing their folds?

You’ll also want to look for exploitive adjustments you can make, for example barreling more against players who will call the flop a lot but tend to only stick around with their strongest hands when the bets are big on the late streets. Of course you want to also do these things online, but you’ll have a lot more opportunities for detailed study of your opponents given the slower pace of these live games — and probably a lot more players with clear leaks you can exploit.

These things you’ll want to take a look at rake in these low buyins. Typically theyre pretty high. In that case they’re actually difficult to beat for a reasonable rate. And also if stacks get short quickly then edges are significantly decreased.

Good points made already.

It’s also worth noting that since you’re never going to be able to play a huge sample of hands in live poker, one of the best ways to neutralize the volatility is to work on improving your capacity to play a high-VPIP style profitably. If you’re playing tight and forcing yourself to “wait for good spots” or rely on winning hands at showdown in order to win pots, it’s going to be much harder to overcome the reduced capacity for volume.

That’s not to say you should go nuts and play every hand, but specifically trying to build yourself into a loose-aggressive type of player is a very good way to go in live poker. Tight is not right!
