A site where I play offer a weekly €5 free bet. All you have to do is spend €5 on an accumilator bet on the horses, football etc, and you get a €5 free bet to use on any sport event.

I don't normally bet on these things, but do you think there might be some value in taking this offer?confused

I would only be playing my fiver a week and the free bet, I know nothing about sports tho..

There is probably value in this.  It just depends on how bad the rake is at this site.  As long as your expected value from each bet is at least 2.51, you are making money here, and I would be surprised if this is not the case.

Thanks for the reply mark smile

The 1st bet must be €5 at 5/1 (6.0 in decimal) or above to qualify, and must be an accumilated bet.

The free bet can be for anything, but is not cashable, and will not be returned with a winning bet.

 cheers…

You don't need to know anything about about sports to fire.  Gambling is a great way to get into it.  That promotion looks very beatable.  Good for them that the don't accept US players cuz I'd punish them.  wink

Been doing this for 2 weeks now, and it's already showing a small profit. I lost my 1st €5 bet, then won €6.68 from the free bet. Then the week after I lost the €5 bet again, then won €30 from the free bet.

Just done my initial bet for this week on 3 football games to win |Chelsea|, |West Ham| & |Angers SCO| all to win @ 4.50.

If I can keep just making the 2 bets a week, this offer should keep its value cool

while i would never doubt the subtleties of bet analyses simply at face value, i think any value to be had in low $ (in absolute terms) runs like this are probably better to be avoided because it's really not that difficult to develop bad habits that would cause you to lose more later under 1 or any other format. while i don't understand that this is or isn't mathematically +ev, the habits formed are whats likely to drive this to be -lifeEV

I agree Jacob, it could form a habit if you got too into it. The only reason I think I could avoid the habit, is as I dont even know the athletes or teams I am betting on, and I have no intrest in watching it. I just put my fiver and my free bet once a week on anything around 3.0 to 6.0 odds. If the free bet stopped, then I would stop too.

The way i'm looking at it is, I get 100% of my money back to make a free bet when I bet a fiver. Where as if I bet 10 I will only get 50% back, so I would be mad to bet any more, as I would lose value.

pretty fair pont there, i mean thats why they are doing this right?

But if you know you arent going to degen everything away, it surely cant hurt. Its weird what hooks you though, I am a MASSIVE sports fan, hell i have even been watching the winter olympics which australians suck in haha. but i have never had more than like $200 in a sportsbet account and i dont intend to… but yet i can spend tens of thousands a year in poker buyins. go figure…

right ya, i have no question regarding the expected value associated with conditional promotions like this. my point was that taking a bet such as this can eventually develop into a multitude of other degen habits. it's like reading conspiracy theories or pseudoscience. things sound interesting at first, and what you stumble into in the beginning may even be correct, but you end up bit by bit allowing yourself to fall into the habit because your comfort level increases each time. the fact that it's only a five dollar thing discourages me a little more because these habits can form regardless the absolute level of money involved, and it would be a shame to develop a degen problem or start a degen problem rather over such a small amount of money.

obviously it's good on you to spot you won't be placing the bet if there no longer is a free bed, but habits formed are tough to break. i think as a community of poker players it's really important to take as conservative approach as possible to gambling for plenty of reasons.
