I have a feeling that this one might take.

I was previously signed up as kennycalhoo.  I had a new job where I was going to be staying at home quite a bit, and I thought at the time that I was going to play/study a ton, but then I became a stay at home Dad (which is so much better than this), and was unable to follow through.

Unfortunately, I’ve gone through a divorce, and now with my daughter a little older and in preschool, I have some time to play again. I’ve signed up for a year membership, and I have one stated goal for myself: To earn enough to go to Vegas next year in an attempt to play at least one smaller WSOP event.

My investments are as follows:
TPE membership

$600 live roll

$350 ACR roll

$300 Ignition roll.

$150 Carbon leftover from a while back.
So, $1K plus the membership.

I have restarted by playing some $3-5 S&Gs on both sites, to moderate success, before having my first full tournament schedule night last Thursday, which was punctuated by binking a $3, $500 guaranteed SS on Ignition for $166.  I ran like God, but then punished once I had the chip lead with 3 tables left.  After one month of limited play, I’m up $203.

I realize this forum is rather dead, and that this thread will essentially just be for me to check in on myself, and have a place to go to when I need to write out some of my thoughts.

But, if you’d like to follow along, do so here, or:
on twitter: @MikeCation

on twitch: twitch.tv/kennycalhoo

TPE has been great to me. I’ve been lucky enough to chat often with Chris Moon, Dylan Thomassie, and James Lambert quite a bit, and KB is…well….KB.  Hopefully I’ll get to the TPE meet up next year.

Cheers.
Mike

It’s not dead brother.

I have taken an interest.

Therefore…the thread will thrive. I really don’t wish to sound conceited, but I feel TPE should pay me commission for my input in to the forums. I am the engine which, single-handedly, keeps these forums in action. My time is money, after all.

Alright, overthe last month, I’ve gotten in about 7 MTT nights, including one Sunday of play. And….I’m down $5.  Which is not bad.
My schedule from here on out doesn’t allow for me to play a lot over the next month, so I wanted to focus this month on just diving in, re-learning how to click buttons, click buttons on 6-8 tournies at a time, and try to be aggressive. I’ve definitely ticked all of those boxes, won a pair of tournaments, made some more FTs….and just relearned the mechanics of everything.

Really proud of a run I made last week in the daily 2K, $5 10K chip, 20 minute level event on ignition. I had a rough start, but battled to a point where I was top 10 chip stack about 10-20 off the bubble (63people). Took a huge blow with KK<99, and just hung on with about 10 bigs to the bubble. From there, I never got above 22 bigs, never really got below 8, and just somehow worked my way to the final table, with only 2 double ups. Finished 6th, as I got really card/spot dead at the end, but I felt so satisfied.  Was fun.

I’m going to be watching a lot of videos over the next month, with my travel/work schedule as crazy as it can be. So I’m hoping to think a lot about pot control and controlled aggression during that time, doing a better job of analyzing flop texture, and working on snapshove type stuff as well.

Appreciate the feedback. 🙂

My schedule has continued to make MTT play very rare, but I’ve been playing a decent volume of S&Gs, at least for me.  2-3 sessions a week while at home, very few when I’m on the road.  But for now, the results have been positive.

On Ignition, I’m up to $608, meaning I’ve doubled my initial investment. In 146 total events, I’ve cashed an absurd 63 times, with a 51% ROI. Really nuts.

After really struggling early on ACR, I’m now up to $404, meaning I’ve earned about $54, and some of that is a bonus. According to my PT4, I’m up $42, but only have a ROI of about 1-2% or so.

Carbon…somehow I’m down a few bucks.  Blech.

I remain pleased with my shove/fold play, and my bubble play has gotten better as well. I’m much more conscious of table image. I’m also using my HUD much more with a very specific purpose, as I detailed in a post about HUDs recently.

This has been a fun start to the journey.

Low volume over the last month.  4 weeks of broadcasting in the last 5 means very little poker. But I did pop in Killingbird’s home game one week, grabbing 3rd. 🙂

Rolls:

Iggy $618

ACR $421

Carbon $154

Live $728

So, I’ve at least got a little profit across the board. I’ll take it.

3 more weeks in my broadcasting schedule for the year, and then more focus on poker.

Have been getting after the MTTs a little bit more of late, and I’m quite happy with that.  Have had a couple of good results in some of the 1KGTDs on Iggy and ACR, but still in need of that one big W.  Final tables at those events are great, but you’ve got to get on the podium to make the massive jumps.

I had one really bad Sunday where I was super tilty, and lost a slew, and have done a great job since then of remembering the process, focusing on one decision at a time.

I have to give some credit to theginger45 as well, watching his last series has helped me do a good job of focusing on ranges a little bit more to pick my spots better. Really has taken me to a different approach, which is great.

Rolls:
ACR: $453; Bovada (friend reminded me I had some money on his…) $165; Iggy: $833; Carbon: $301; Live $729

Slow and steady progress.
