Hey, guys!

Since it seems this section of the forum is pretty dead, I will try to keep it alive with my thread 🙂
I’m the coach for Tournament Poker Edge for 3 years already and I’m super happy to be part of this amazing community.  Therefore I decided to give a shot for my own poker blog/journal. I’ve got some set goals in the period of next 8 months (More about the goals in the following posts) and I will be updating you guys with progress towards it.

The goal of this thread is to track me in a more effective way and maybe also inspire some of you, who maybe have somewhat similar goals.

I will be updating the thread with results, thoughts, some useful links every 1 or 2 weeks, but also will be active pretty much every day if you have any questions or just responses.

Currently, I’m playing low-mid stakes tournaments. I’ve decided about a few months ago, to focus on these stakes, because you can achieve pretty high ROI with relatively small swings which means pretty much stress-free grind. So, my daily grind is ranged from 11-55$ tournaments and I will play 11-215$ on Sundays, also from time to time I will travel to live stops or attend some better structure events here in London.
I’m not backed and have zero interest for being backed.

Graph for last 6 months in these games

Image Enlarger

I guess I’ll just tell one of the main goals for me, which is volume. I’m aiming to play ~1,000 games/month.
So hopefully, this thread will get some interest and we will have some good discussions, etc.

I will write a proper post on December 1st, with monthly goals and review this current month.
Hope you all been doing alright, take care!

Hey,

Good to see you are still around and kicking. Sick graph.

1000~ games per months sounds like a huge volume. Playing 5 days a week that’s 50 Mtts per day. I’m sure in the short term that is more than doable, but is it long term sustainable? If you start to get burnt out the quality of your game will suffer.

I will be following with interest. As I am currently between ‘real’ jobs I have been grinding full-time for the past month playing 5-6 days per week and about 20mtts per session, and I must admit that I am feeling it. I have been trying to balance it out by making sure I work out 2-4 times per week and have at least one quality evening with the misses.

Which sites are you grinding?

Hey man, thanks for your reply 🙂

So I think 1k games is definitely sustainable. I do usually play 5 times a week, sometimes I go crazy and play 6-7 days straight. On my daily sessions, I generate 50+ Games while 9-12 tabling and on Sundays I get like around 70ish games. My usual sessions are about 8-10hours long and Sunday is 14-16h+.
I try to check up with myself and not get a burn from working too much, I’m getting better at it, but still sometimes I need to take at least 2-3 days off.
I never got those mystical burnouts where the player can’t grind for weeks or months, lol.

I work out too, 3-4 times a week. My diet is pretty good, would rate it : 9/10 which is like to 1-2 cheat meals a week and other than that really clean eating.

Balance in this career is super important, it’s very beneficial to spend as much time as possible in nature, being as active as possible, learn new stuff, be social too.

Seems you’re on the right path, good luck!

I’ll start off by saying that traffic in this forum is surprisingly low, I mean in 8 days only ~40ish views. I will post some updates and we will see how it goes in terms of people’s interest if it continues to be very low, its probably not worth the time, writing for pretty much myself.

Alright, let’s review the November.
Games played: 1,022 -> Overall, happy with the volume, especially knowing that I had some few days off more than usual. Had few more interesting deep runs this month, unfortunately, couldn’t win them, but still happy with the results.

Studying: On average spent 4 hours/week improving my game -> This is pretty low, but it’s really hard to balance all the things [Time with fiance, high volume, workouts, some random stuff] obviously not excuse, should aim for more.

Workouts: 3-4 Times/Week -> Happy with this, I guess I couldn’t do fewer sports sessions, addicted to that feeling after good workout 🙂

Graph for November

Image Enlarger

Pretty productive month, obviously there’s lots of room to improve, but I’m happy with the effort input.

December goals:

Games: 700
Study: 5h/week
Workouts: 3+/week
Finish the book I’m reading and start new.

So lower volume this month, because of a holiday period, I’m going back to Lithuania for few weeks, so naturally, I know it will be a bit tougher to find motivation to grind, as you wanna spend as much time as possible with family, friends.  Will do my best to fight the demons inside and stay as productive as possible while having fun back there.
My birthday is on 22nd, but still not sure If I’m gonna do something big.

That is it for this time, hopefully, you guys having a great time and luck at the tables, if not remember to work smart, study, stay healthy and results will come 😉

I’m interested, keep it going for a bit at least wink

Looks like the first 2/3rds of the month were a real and proper grind, then away we go! massive upswing. Just waiting for that to happen to me laugh

My month is kind of the reverse, had a nice score right at the beginning then variance stepped on my parade massively in the middle. Hoping to start this month with a biggy as well.

Enjoying this!  it’s one of the less traveled categories in the forum, but definitely worth a read.  I’ll spread the word!

Thanks for the feedback, guys! 🙂

Wanted to update yesterday, but was really exhausted. Played long session the night before, had only ~5.30 hours of sleep and went for 10K run at the evening, done it in 60 minutes, really happy about that time. Also started new series yesterday, had the intention to record at least few parts, but I was just mentally and psychically drained, so record just one part. Will try to finish the series before going on holidays.

As far as the month goes, super happy with the volume, as I said the goal for the month is 700 games and I’m currently at 529. Will play at least 3 or 4 sessions before flying back to Lithuania which means [200-220 games more] and obviously going to play few more sessions back there.

Studying goes great I think I’m reaching desired hours/week, also doing some deep analysis coaching 1-on-1 which definitely improves my game too. I guess, there was no single coaching session where I haven’t discovered something new.

Workouts – Been slacking here, I’ve done just two sessions last week, but will go for 3 this week.

Reading – Read a lot, but my new book ‘Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss’ arrived and it’s a pure gold can’t help myself, done 1/6 of it already 🙂

My birthday is next week will buy a car for myself as a present cool

As a side note if anyone interested in 1on1 sessions let me know, shoot private message for me and we will arrange something, I won’t be able to do any of those this month, but after new years we can do it.

Alright, got few tables already running as I’m writing this post, so I better focus and fire some more tables, take care guys!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ! 🙂 heart

Hello,

Noobie here – first post!smile

Quick question, how many MTTs do you usually have running at once?

I’ve started taking poker a lot more seriously over the past month and trying to increase the number of simultaneous games I have running but I feel like I lose track of what’s going on in each game way too much with increased volume.

Liking the posts so far, I’m trying to balance my time and setup up some kind of a schedule with life too!

Good luck grinding and keep posting !

Hey! Welcome to TPE Forum 🙂

I play 9-12 tables.
Yea, increase your table count wisely if you just start banging uncomfortable amount of tables your game quality will drop rapidly. So increase them one at a time and gradually you’ll to your desired number.
Good luck! 🙂

Hello Merfinis,

No no my man, you must continue! Many of my threads involve me just talking to myself! The fewer views I get, the more I talk…

I hear you though, it can get hmmm…what is the word? I won’t go so far as to say depressing, nor even disheartening. I don’t care that much…but for sure it can get…worrying? No that is too strong also. Disconcerting, there’s the word.

Like…is my thread really so lame that nobody wants to read it let alone respond? Sometimes after I produce an ignored thread I enter a state of heightened paranoia. I see people watching me from their windows. Strange cars make repeated passes by my house. I hear voices in my head telling me I am a loser and everybody wishes I’d just shut up already!

I even got prescribed anti psychotic medication because I just couldn’t take the mental torment involved in producing a detested thread for which I became a laughing stock in the world of poker in which I am nothing but a diseased floating Dwarf Pygmy Goby fish.

Ahhhh! Not really. I couldn’t care less.

I actually do find your thread inspiring. Just looking at the first graph you posted inspires me.

If you were to place a mirror underneath your graph, it would be an almost exact copy of my graph, except instead of profit, mine reads loss.

I just find it inspiring to know that it is actually possible to win at all over any kind of time period longer than a day.

Thanks! When you’re playing 9-12, do you actually have a clue of what’s going on at each table? Or a select few and the rest of them are almost purely HUD reliant play?
