While trying to evaluate my game regarding playing MTT I am a little bit confused as I have absolutely no idea of whether I am a winning player, breaking even or losing and that’s because I don’t know what I should expect. Wondered if you could help me figure it out.

Initial deposit: 50$

Site: Poker Stars (exclusively)

Bankroll: Around 650$ (most of it comes from a cash in a 4K GTD)

MTT Type played:

  • Daily: 0 to 6. 0.5$ to 3$ of various types. From 45 man to 2-4K GTD with around 1000-2000 fields.
  • Weekend: 15-25. 1.1$ to 5.5$ in addition to two 11$ (usually the Hotter 11 and the Big 11)

Average number of MTTs played on a month: 120.

Other games: 6-max sit & go (3.5$ and 7$). Maybe 30 a week.

Results: My bankroll has been stable for about 6 months. It’s moved from 600$ to 800$. No big cashes since 6 months ago.

For a period of 6 months.

Reviewing my stats I win money on:

– SNG: About a 10% ROI (total over 700 played). Note I’m winning more than I should on this, Adj CNet hints at a 5% ROI instead.

– MTTs: I’m regularly hitting a profit on the 45 man. I’m breaking even on the 180 man and losing money (not a lot) on all the rest (I often cash on those but not enough to break even). Obviously, overall my win rate is huge as I have one single big cash, if I take that out I’m losing a bit. Total number of tourneys played: 500.

By month:

I’m losing about 60$ per month on the last 3 months with an average buy-in of 900$ each month. When I moved from SNG to MTTs I knew I was trading into more variance but it is difficult for me to evaluate the variance. My expectancy is if I hit a FT once in a while and cash moderately big I will recover however maybe I should be expecting a more steady kind of winnings and the fact I’m not getting those means I’m playing badly and having luck from time to time.

Do  you have any thoughts that can help?

Don’t let that you haven’t FT anything or won anything in a certain amount of time as long as you feel your playing well that’s all that matters, the results will follow. Gl for the rest of your journey.
