So I’ve had some pretty insane run good the last couple weeks. First I won a ticket to the Newcastle event near me on the MoneyMaker tour, but now to top that off I won one of the special £5 tournaments Pokerstars were running and I’m off to London for the weekend of the 8th-10th November.

I’ll be playing in a sit and go with £16k in prize money, but the winner of this will receive a platinum pass to Barcelona next year! Obviously there’s still a huge chance I don’t get there but it honestly feels dreamlike to even be this close.

My question for all of you, what’s the best preperation? I’m watching Andrew Brokos’ Main Event run, as this should give me some help with live decisions. I’m going to download HRC once I’ve got the payouts and play around with some spots to make sure my ICM is on point, and I’m getting Modern Poker Theory on Andrew’s advice (Thank you Andrew!). What else should I do to get myself in the best possible shape?

Also if anyone wants to rail along it will be streamed on Twitch so I’ll post the link up 🙂

Study the sausages out of SnG wizard. On HM2

You can set it up to play for winner take all or whatever the structure of your game will be.

Download a good push fold app for your phone. Icmizer does a good one (paid) Preflop+ is free but with upgrades.

Maybe not enough time to learn it all so maybe a few decent push charts wouldn’t go amiss.

Can probably do more than virtual rail as its on my patch. Assume its the Hippodrome so can drop in to celebrate cool

Thanks Kouman, I’ve had the prize structure and it’s quite flat which is a relief – £800 for last up to £5000 for 2nd, with 1st taking £1000 and the platinum pass.

My takeaway from this is to study the hell out of 4/3 handed spots which I’m least familiar with, and also try and play for the win as much as possible as first is probably worth £25k at a conservative estimate, plus upside of live experience!

The sit and go itself is at Aspers on Saturday afternoon, my wife’s heading down with me but aside from that it’ll be a small rail so feel free to drop in and say hi. Fingers crossed we’ll have cause to celebrate!

Awesome, wtg ScotFish!!! I suck at satellites. Used to love em but now I’m basically done with them on Stars. I will probably study them again once I return to some smaller sites and/or play some in person.

Dara O’Kearney released a book about them in March, and it’s quite well-reviewed so I’d recommend checking that out. Anything that gets Collin Moshman’s seal of approval is bound to be a great resource for SNGs and satellites.

Speaking of Moshman, his wife Katey Dozier and he recently did an AMA on Cardschat. I’ve only read through the first page but there seems to be some great advice about SNG and (to a lesser extent) satellite strategy.

Wishing you great success in the SNG!

Lol whoops, my last one got hung up while posting and I figured it was lost, so I wrote out the whole thing again. So, double the good wishes! Looking forward to sweating it.

Thanks guys! I’ve got dara’s book on satellite’s as I’ve loved his content/poker brain for a while 🙂 This one’s a bit weird as the prize structure is a little unbalanced – last place is £800 with first place being about £26k, so it plays closer to a winner takes all in this case.

I actually ended up getting interviewed, which was a surreal experience, so you can see the prize structure etc here –https://www.pokerstars.uk/en/news/online-qualifier-joss-murdoch-on-the-platinum-pass-experience-its-a-fun-puzzle/57520/?campaign=NOT_part_of_a_campaign&secondo=Not_a_product

I’ll report back on how it goes, and if I don’t get a chance I’ll post the VOD afterwards so people can give me some tips on my play.
