So I'm looking to play my 1st WSOP event this year and have a few questions for other TPE members who play WSOP regularly.  I didn't have plans to attend this year until the announcement of the Colossus 5 mil GTD at 565 buyin. I decided this is such an awsome oppertunity for me to play my first WSOP event and I believe many other WSOP rookies will feel the same way.

Any way I'm looking to get my travel and hotel plans booked early and I have a few questions.

The event has two starting days (May 29,30th) with two flights each day at 10am and 4pm. So I think I want to arrive a day ahead of the starting day one. What do you guys think about arriving on the 29th and planning to reg for the day two starting time? My second question is how long do you guys think I need to book a hotel for if I only plan in playing this event?

How soon are you guys booking flight/hotel for WSOP? Am I correct in assuming that this is atleast a 4 day event (2 starting days+2 days of play/ FT)?

Any other travel/planning tips or experience would really be apprecitated.

Thanks guys.

Hey Jedi-  I would definitely arrive the day before and reg at that time as this event is going to be crazy. You should be OK regging the day before though. I would NOT want to be regging up the morning of that event.

I would definitely assume that this is at least a 4 day event. It's not crazy to think that it MIGHT be a 5 day event.

If you are looking for a low cost place to stay, check out Gold Coast next door.

I would probably book relatively early, although I do not think you need to do it now. I would want to be booked for that weekend though by like March to be on the safe side.

Most important tip of all.  Have fun and take it all in!  The WSOP is a blast and playing your first event will be memorable!

Thanks KB, yeah I almost forgot about the likely very long registration lines for this. I am hoping to spend around a week in vegas and hopefully this works out. I do wonder if flying in on the 29th and registering for the day 1a flight on the 30th would be a good way to approach it. I'm really not sure if this a likely expection. I really don't have expetience playing large field events like this. I will certainly take a look at the Gold Coast and thanks for the suggestions I really need it.

Glad I spotted this post, since I'm planning my first WSOP this year as well! Definitely some good advice from KB. Guess I'll have to check back into this forum while planning my trip!

Quick follow up on the Gold Coast suggestion. It is not a luxery hotel, I have low standards for hotels.  If it has a bed and a showever, I am pretty happy. But I did hear they redid the rooms and that is a little nicer now.

A few other tips that came to mind…

If you are in to healthy eating while playing, do some research in to All American Dave. He is on site and will deliver healthy meals to your table. You set up an account with him in advance and then tweet at him when you want food.

If you stay somewhere else and will be driving tot he Rio, you are going to want to park in the back covention parking. Dont park up front or valet at the main enterance. Its like an 8 mile walk to where the poker tournament is.

I'll post more as it comes to mind. Carlos will be good to chime in as well.

Hey guys,

I'm also attending my first WSOP this year (hope to see some of you there!). I noticed that someone created a spreadsheet with the WSOP touney's last year as well as the other tournament series on the strip around that time (i think The Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza and another series was in there). This was useful to play non-WSOP events to work out timing and buy-ins.

Does anyone know if one exists for this year?

Cheers!

Brad

I shared something in another thread that might help: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nes9gkuogcan47h/WSOP2015.xlsx?dl=0

The only advice I have is take it all in. Get to the Rio an hour before the event starts. Take some time to soak it all in, as it's quite the sight, and i'm sure this event will be even moreso. Find the bathrooms, your table, how get outside (Conversly, this could all be done when you go to Reg). Be preppared that the lines for the bathrooms are going to be long on the breaks. You can try walking down to the casino, but those lines tend to be just as long.

Personally, I stay at Vdara. I like being able to get away from the gaming floor, and not walking into a bank of slot machines the moment I go downstairs. Personal preference I guess.

As mentioned earlier, don't get super attached emotionally to this event. While it's a great tourney for WSOP rookies to come in to play, it is going to draw a HUGE crowd of rookies. Likely a lot of people who haven't ever played, which is exactly it's intended design. Don't over estimate your table's ability or play just because it's a WSOP.

One thought might be to try and play one of the 235$ Daily Deepstack events the day before. That really should get you a feel for the type of players you are going to encounter by and large in this event. If you do, just remember to adjust for structure differences and you will be ok.

Totally agree with wha the boys have said.

I stayed at RIO my first year because I wanted the entire experience.  If you aren't staying there, just like ONE1time said….  go over and see the layout and explore a bit.

I stayed out Aria last year.  Have stayed at Vdara, RIO, Encore……  do what makes you feel comfy.  ENJOY the trip.  The poker can be great or bad.  ENJOY IT.

*Oh, forgot to say…. stop by the TPE house at 5:25am and ring the doorbell a few times and runaway.  The guys LOVE that stuff, lol.

Staying at the Rio has its perks though. With 4k people trying to use the same two bathrooms at breaks I found it much more comfortable to jsut hustle up to my room.

bathroom point is a pretty good one! although, its only really an issue early in the big events. by dinner time it has calmed down a good bit.

Walking to the edge of the casino floor (where the outer tournament tables have been historically) lets you use semi-hidden bathrooms and also builds in a walk, which is good after having sat for two hours 🙂

Yeah we are getting close! I’m booked and already pre-reg’d for event #5B. I’ll be in Vegas about a week. So they are saying possible 20k peeps for the Colossus… kinda wish I just planned for one of the other 1k’s but oh well maybe it be the biggest MTT the planet has ever seen. Thanks for the tips so far guys and good luck to every one. Hope to hear about you guys making deep runs in the sweat threads this summer. Any TPE members who want to swap something small like 1% to make things more interesting I’m in.
