Been a while since I posted anything on here, but I had to post this.

WOOO HOOOO!!!  Just got clearance form the cruise director, will be playing in the ME this year! I already made my room reservations at the Rio.  This has been a long time coming, a dream of mine since 2003, yes, I am a Moneymaker convert.  Time to brush up with TPE.

See you there!

Congratulations! I'm excited for you, the main event is a great experience. Piece of advice, though: don't announce to everyone at your table that this is your first time playing, it's a dream come true, you're so excited, etc. I see someone do this almost every year, and I always go after that person, because inevitably they will fold too much in large pots. As much as possible, you want to avoid having that risk-averse tendency in the first place, but at the very least, don't tell everyone how to exploit you. Have fun!

I do not talk much at the table anyway, but I will take that to heart.  All the more reason to sit down shut up and play 😀

Will people start with 50K chips this year? I know they're going 5X on a lot of/all of the bracelet events. If so, you'll get to have even more fun with it!

That's correct.  Everything except the 10K+ events.

What should be the general strategy for ME if you are first timer?

I know that this is very braod topic but brief overview would be nice. In addition, it would be nice to know DOs and DONT.

We already know DONT # 1) dont announce that you are playing first time as mentioned by Foucault.

(2) recognize just how good the structure is. Until you sit down and play a tournament with 2 hour levels, you do not even realize just how SLOW that is. Moreso than any other tournament, you cannot win this one on the first day. If you simply double your stack on the first day you are off to a really good start.

Just like KB & Andrew said……….. totally agree.  As a first time guy two years ago, I was lucky enough to have some clowns at my first table.  You will be guys SPEWING chips left and right.  You have to make sure you don't go crazy.  Like KB said…….  this is the BEST structured tourney you will play.  I finished the last two yrs playing well and bagging 45 & 48k making day 2s in both.  Again, you can't win this on the first day, but you can go BUST.  Remember, put your EGO aside and just play solid smart poker and you do go deep.  Both my day 2s have been super unlucky filled with coolers I couldn't avoid…….  Andrew said it.  Go experience it and take it ALL IN.  I'll be back again after having a horrible time outside of the play last year due to major back pain during my Vegas trip.

GLGL to you all playing and I hope bunch of us go deep and FT this bad boy.  KB, I'll need patches LOL

Not strategy related but…

Dress warm. It's surprising chilly even surrounded by so many people. Bring a backpack. Put a sweatshirt in there (did I mention it's cold?), some snacks (water and beer are free so you're good there), and hand sanitizer. You're touching a lot of chips touched by 1000's of other people (then rubbing your eyes cause you're tired at the 10th hour). And like someone else mentioned earlier. Take it all in! Put the cell phone away and soak it all in while you're walking down the hallway and into the main floor. Just got goosebumps!! smile
