This is my first time watching you and I have just made up in my mind that you are big dog’s brother. I imagine you look kinda like him but make with black hair. Awesome.

as much as it would pain me duggs i would prolly muck, its just not AJ enough for the amount of times that were crushed and as per the rant we hate flipping at this point.

the reason for this overlap is its a camtasia studio clitch that i will try to correct, if i space them out i cant see while im playing its only when it gets rendered on tpe that you can see them while playing if i spaced them out i would not be able to see my cards.

I’ve seen this a lot from the pros recently where they almost habitually 3b with AQo and then fold to a 4b. I’ve also seen Duggs ask a lot in these threads about the merit of 3b and the response always seems to be the same, “Cos we’re way ahead of his opening range.’ But then we’re losing a tonne of value from our hand, aren’t we?

Can the pros all get together and create a video where they discuss it and why they do it? Then we can start to understand why you turn a hand as strong as AQo into a bluff a lot of the time. Cheers.

flatting just makes it next to impossible to win the pot on the end with a bluff and 3 betting pre gives you control of the pot and action moving forward and purposely widening someons range makes it tougher for yourself to be sure of what they have so 3 betting gives you the info you desire moving forward

why would you want to turn near the top of our value range into a bluff? and i think v fit/fold opponents 3betting doesnt really garner extra postflop fold equity either.
surely 3betting to make the hand simple is not a valid reason?
if you are 3betting for value because he calls with alot of worse and only 4bets better i could understand that. But you said that we want to narrow his range which makes very little sense to me. especially as betting for information isnt very useful.

I dont really consider my questions especially loaded, i didnt ask with the QJs hand in mind, I only saw it after reading your last explanation.

fwiw i hate non real answers to actual questions like your first response.

That is a really good question Jamo, i also agree with that – it seems like some people are starting to flat these types of hands a lot more preflop with the intention of floating most flops, which can be done for the same price as 3betting, but some others still 3bet. would be good for a discussion about it

I agree that I have said in the past that I 3 bet AQ because its way ahead of a raisers opening range. However I dont think thinks its always a fold to a 4 bet. It depends on dyanmics (player tourny table stack sizes etc.) Although alot of players do flat and are flatting more with AQ I like the 3 bet option better. As it polarizes ranges more and I hate the idea of missing a flop and then having no idea where I am in the hand and I think this is going to happen often enough for the 3 bet to be the more plus ev play atleast for me.

Thanks for the response, BigDog. Would love to hear Mike Leah’s thoughts on this as he is very good at keeping in hands that he dominates and might argue a flat with AQ is good here. What about a BigDog vs GoLeafs theory video???

I just realised the Mike Leah is no longer part of TPE… that’s a shame. I was trying to do the Maths for it, but realised there are too many variables like game flow, dynamics, stack sizes etc. to be able to work it out. However, if a player opens say 15% from EP and then either 4bets or folds (since your 3b looks very strong) then it has to be better to flat a hand as strong as AQ since you get more value the times he has KQ,QT,QJ,AJ,AT. As I said, though, it’s quite difficult to give a definitive answer as we need to know the situation in the tournament, stack size, current dynamic.
