I’ve been thinking about the resteal Jason Koon made with A4s. You say he is only doing this with small pairs and small suited aces.

On one hand, I like the idea of using aggression to double or bust if called or stay above the 25bb danger zone if the steal works. I hate being handcuffed as much as the next man.

On the other hand, if you know his range is so small, a good player like Bakes would as well. This would make medium pairs and medium aces fist pump calls, allowing the opener to play perfectly.

I like the shove better against raisers who wouldn’t know his shoving range is so marginal.

If the opener is good and knows this, then I like…

    1. shoving medium pairs (88-TT) and aces (A9-AJs) to take advantage of the perceived weakness of the 30bb shoving range
    OR
    2. 3betting the smaller hands to take advantage of the perceived strength of the 30bb 3bet range.

27min You say a lot of times you would call with AKo in LP vs a tight 20bb stacks EP open. What are the advantages of flatting here?

  3. loxxii

38min. I snap call the squeeze with AJs. You need 40% and you have about 43% if he is shoving 88+, AT+. Plus you are probably getting it in with him if it folded around to you any way. The dead money from the open is just sweetens the pot.

    Great stuff, Mike.
I especially appriciate that you let the replayer run stoping it occasionally to
explain. This way we see all the hands and the flow and the great stream of valueable knowledge you provide.
    Thank you.

Nice video, very well done. You didn’t get as crazy with the 3betting as your first video suggested you would 🙂 Don’t think I found anything controversial about any of your call vs 3b decisions.

The one thing I do disagree with is your analysis of JCarver’s call with the 96s. Even if we put you on a quite tight range of 77+,AQs+AQo+, he has 29% equity and is getting 4:1 on the call. It’s really just a question of how often he’ll get outplayed postflop, because he’s certainly got the right immediate odds to call pre.

You say it would be better if you were deeper, but I don’t see how that could be correct. Deeper stacks ought to benefit the player who has position, so his call should only get worse with deeper stacks. The shallower you are, the more the immediate pot odds matter. It’s not like he’s calling for implied odds just trying to spike 2-pair or better and stack you. Or he shouldn’t be, anyway.

Again, nice job on the video.

Mike is not responding to anyones comments its disappointing. I think he will be yet another one in one done instructor. What happened to Kidcardiff, of DaryllAAJace as well? It’s always the best players that you don’t see much off.

i agree redvulture…but not replying relatively quickly the questions are being “lost in the heat of the moment” which i find annoying. Feel i have lost 30 mins of my life looking every day lol.

Advantages of flatting vs someone who hasn’t open any hands and appears VERY tight are just that you are not putting yourself in an unnecessary flip.

Another area might be that you get him to bluff off more often on ace or king high flops by just calling down.

I assure you I’ve already did early planning with my other video, and the only reason I have waited as long as I have to start the second video is to collect as much constructive criticism as possible to improve.

I have a pretty busy schedule recently too with both coaching football and preparing endurance wise to be at tip top shape for WSOP.

I apologize, but will re-iterate that I probably won’t be able to answer questions as a steady stream but rather a set time each week to review.

Thanks Mike its a great video i just thought you were not replying because you didin’t want to or could not be bothered. TPE in the past have had a lot of instructors who make one series then never come back. I really like your style of play though it is simialler to mine but i do a bit more calling in position and in the blinds.

great reminders about keeping emotions in check and not going on tilt from bad beats. It’s hard sometimes to keep that in mind when you 3-bet A-Ko and some ninny makes a bad call and sucks out on you. Also great reminders about early play with no antes and not taking unnecessary risks/flips. Thanks for the vid! I always play better if I watch a vid before I play tournaments.
