The second last hand shows pretty well that some ppl just put money in the pot just for the sake of betting, with no clue what they are doing

When the Ace rolls over on the turn and Octopys bets, he is representing the Ace. When a 6 comes on the river Id be betting like 3/4 100% of the time.

If u would really have an ace and bet the turn, you would be value betting the river as well, so I dont think Octopys played well.
Missed a perfect spot to take down a pot with a perfect bluff i think

Gotta say Theory Thursday is pretty close to the best day of the week. These vids are a huge help and make a really great supplement to the Live Sweats because it allows me to understand more of what I am looking at when the guys play! Keep ’em coming!!

    Ric-

you make a good point. often if you decide to bluff one street you need to be thinking about what you’re representing and if you’ll need to be bluffing future streets.

in this case i think you’re right. if he’d put in a decent value-looking bet of ~3/4 pot i would have folded.

like this a lot, could you do a vid covering what to do with 10-20 bigs eff vs different types of opponents facing a sb complete. I.e where would you check or jam or 3x/4x to induce etc. This is one of the most interesting aspects of blinds plays imo

    Amazing video Hagbard.

I have a question about the 2nd last hand, @ 39:00 10Jc in the sb facing a button open.

You said you were ‘checking back your whole range’ and I was hoping you could describe that a little more clearly. Why we do it for example and what it means to check back your whole range to your opponent.

Do you mean you are checking back the whole range of hands that you would have likely been calling with pre-flop, from your perspective and his? like underpairs, Ax hands,K10,Q10,J10, and even monsters like the occasional slow played JJ to AA that you decided to flat instead of 3 bet?

thanks and sorry for the stupid question lol

great vid , love your poker mind this is a area bvb were i feel alot of people leak weres as they put no thought into raising the bb when there oop i really liked this vid i feel it was one of your best !! these are the areas in ones game that really help tighten up the ship ,ty sir gl in your games : )

i say that i’m checking the JTcc on T32r, and that i’ll be checking my whole range there, meaning any hand that i flatted his open with.

it’s just a fancy-boy way of saying that on this flop, against this opponent, i am never leading out with a bet. i mentioned it because i think that a lot of players will lead out here with top pair.

he’s not checking back 44-99 if we check, so why make a bet that will fold out hands that will cbet?

honest opinion, i felt the video was generic and rather unsightful, seemed like the video wasnt well prepared and the “inside info” wasn’t anything I could effectively use. At this moment, Ill stick to bigdog and HTP and wein video’s. No offense to HC, but this wasnt helpful.

  9. Hagbard Celine

no offense taken, DS, and I appreciate your candor.

i’m sorry that this video didn’t help you. to be completely honest, i wasn’t very satisfied with it myself.

that being said, i doubt you can watch one of my videos and conclude that based on this one, none of my videos are worth watching.

we’re becoming a large community, filled with players of all skill-levels, so it’s hard to please everyone.

while this video was made with a beginner in mind, i think you’re right that it could have been better prepared and could have included some spots requiring more high-level thinking.

glad you’re enjoying the other videos,

    hagbard

O by no means did I mean im completely done watching your videos, im not saying any of them are not worth watching. I think I worded it wrong in the first post. I think you hit the nail right on the head when you said it could of used more difficult spots, and I look forward to your future ones.

ya ive never done the rating thing didnt know what it was about haha so i clicked it

thanks for the clarification. and again, i really appreciate the honest feedback.

i want to make the best videos i can, and can’t really do it without your feedback. you’re right i was probably a little lazy in making this one and will do my best to be better prepared in the future.

It’s hard to make an advanced theory floating video since so much of it comes from personal history against the other player in the hand. I mean how could you even tell someone a specific spot where it’s profitable to float two streets and take it away on the river?

I think the video is just fine because the idea is to have you adopt a certain mindset and then begin accumulating knowledge from there.

I loved the vid instead…. Thanks Hagbard… I loved the A7s hand…. and was thinking about shoving the river into him for value…what do u think? Is this silly? I really did not like the K10o hand…. obviously we lucked out on the turn…but did not like the raise on the flop… btw… Cairns1987 is muckducks…. or David Cairns in real live from the bigdog’s land of Canada.. he is a big winner online… not really a soft player at all LOL… anyways Thanks again for the vid.

First off, I like you’re thinking and process on analyzing a hand. If I could give some constructive criticism that will maybe help you as presenter, please stop saying “um” during every pause and thought. I’m not an English teacher but it gets to be a bit much after a while. Second, I think the presentation would flow better if the material was practiced once or twice first. There’s a lot of stalling and questioning “what hand is this” and “oh yeah, this is from the $100 freeze, no wait the $50 rebuy…I’m not really sure but let’s go through it anyhow”. This may sound petty, but I do a lot of presenting in my day job so hopefully this is helpful.
