Are Sundays Really as Valuable as we Think They Are?

So before you all lynch me for asking the question, let me share with you my thoughts on the subject and then we can have a civilized discussion and come to an informed conclusion. How does that sound. Hey, I said civilized, no throwing things….   Okay on with the subject of the day. So the question I have asked really comes down to what the overall impact of Sunday is. We all know it is when everyone comes out to play. It is all the biggest fields, the biggest dollars, it is the scores of a lifetime in the tourneys we all dream about. Don't get me wrong, the thought of crushing the Sunday Million is part of what gets me to the felt almost everyday and helps keep me motivated, but you have to take a step back and [More...]

The ride continues!

So last night was another exciting night for the Gman. First I have to start off with a big congrats to Rivermen123 for his 4th place finish in the Daily Dollar Rebuy. It was an exciting ride watching him navigate a 10k runner field to get there. Awesome work sir, you should be proud!  As far as what I was doing last night, it was a pretty successful evening. I played the 4.40 2R1A (the 4 quad for short) 2k GTD on Stars, the $22 6-max Deep Stack on Stars, Mini UBOC 26 and the Super Stack 30k on FTP (full 4 entries). It wasn't the biggest schedule that I have played, but it focused a lot on what I really like (deep stack play ). So the run down is finished 33rd out of 770 in the 4q, [More...]

The Gman is Back Baby!

So I have just awoke from recovering from my evening and morning. There is something so enormously satisfying about being up late and making a huge deep run. There is something distinctly irritating having to wake up and shove a crap load of snow. I'll give you the run down of the evening here while I wait for lunch to finish. It is Double Guarantee week on FTP and like the good maniac that I am, I jumped into it on my favorite tourneys. My absolute favorite tourney on FTP being the 1900 EST Super Stack 15k (30k this week ). To add to the fun it is a Multi Entry tourney and there has been some rather active debate in chat on how to approach these (and how many bullets to put into the gun). So I put [More...]

The Intrinsic Value of my Wife

Having an outside observer in your life and to your activities can be an incredibly powerful tool. It can be frustrating to catch the unexpected opinion at times and it can certainly throw you as well. The reason I bring this up is if you have been following, I have been working hard on re-defining my post flop game and it has been a sizeable hit to my confidence and my focus. I have been fairly grumpy as I have been focusing on my mistakes and dwelling on poor results and the reasoning behind it. As I have been a royal pain in the ass around the house my wife finally got tired of it. Last night she asked what the problem was and I told her. Her simple response was, "I thought you knew what you were doing wrong, [More...]

My first VLOG!

Kind of a test of this format, but if people prefer it I might start doing my blog this way every time.

Holy Crap, I Learned How to Fold

It has been a few days since I have written so I thought I would update where things are at. The biggest thing that has been going on is I have been working very hard at transforming my post flop game and trying diligently to develop into a more logical approach to post flop play where I make a concious effort to focus on extracting value where I determine where I am ahead and to get out of hands where I am behind. To catch you up if you haven't read or followed prior blogs, I have a little problem with firing a lot of bullets at people when I play. My game requires opponents to understand and comprehend the fold button and to assume that the pressure I apply means that I am ahead and they are behind. Doesn't [More...]

Thank God for Razz

Hey, Had a very interesting grinding day today.  Started off by dropping 1.4k in 1/2 and 2/4 nlhe which was fun.  Then I tossed some poker chips and got back to business, turning that around to -$900.  I lost 4 flips and was at -$1600 before I could blink.  I would have normally been tilting pretty hard but at the same time i was at two $30/$60 razz games and running/playing well.  i ended up shipping about $1200 in razz money and later played a sesh of NLHE and eeked out a modest $300 win which boosted my confidence and kept me from deciding to become a razz pro. The point of this blog i guess is redefine game selection.  This can easily apply to tournaments.  For instance, the HORSE tourneys on Stars and Tilt are some of the softest [More...]

2010 Wrap up

Haven't blogged in a while and I apologize for that, have been dealing with some really annoying stuff lately.  2 days before Thanksgiving I was rear ended on the highway going to my girlfriend's parent's house for her break.  He was going about 40-50~ MPH and neither me or my girlfriend Emily heard any breaks before it happened.  My car has been in the shop up until about a week ago, and since then I've been dealing with a bunch of problems with my back/neck/shoulders along with Emily and was going to physical therapy 2-3 times a week in December while I was staying with my parents in Florida for the holidays.  Fun times. Had a good holiday  with the family, and enjoyed the freezing weather in florida as well(wtf).  Left for PCA through orlando and hour later I was [More...]

What’s Good For Your Colon is Good For Your Soul…

Before I speak on my colon, which I'm sure has you all bristling with anticipation, allow me to apologize for the lack of blog posts. It will be a short apology, as I don't want to assume that anyone wants to read a blog written by me. But an apology nonetheless for those out there with deficient enough taste to want to read a blog written by me. I'm sorry. With a New Year upon us, I've been, like many people, making resolutions to change, many of which will be quickly forgotten. One of them is to blog more. We'll see what happens. Onward to the colon… A bunch of my girlfriend’s friends decided to start the year off by doing the Quantum Wellness Cleanse, which is three weeks of no animal products, no sugar, no gluten, no caffeine and [More...]

With a little help from my friends…

Poker is a game defined by your actions and results at the tables. It is in its purest form an individual endeavor. You against the world. Something that I never really appreciated until I landed here at TPE though is that you can never really rise as an individual player without the people around you. I know in just about every leadership seminar or experience that I have ever been through you learn that you succeed by surrounding yourself with people that augment you strengths and who you can rely on in areas of your own weakness. Find experts in their field, surround yourself with them, learn from them and don't be afraid to lean on them when you need them. So what does this have to do with anything you may ask. Well there is only one way to [More...]
