Hi all!!!!

New to tpe and subscribed 3 months now! Its so god damn exciting to learn these theories in tpe N take my poker game play to the next level.

Jus some quick advice question here. I find myself in spots where playing a 20-30 man mtt where its down to final 9. Top 7 cashes. Average bb is ard 6-7 and maybe 1 or 2 “big stacks” of 12-15bb. If you are 7th in chips, and its bubble, is it advisible to fold all the way till 8th busto? Or there are better gameplays out there?

Welcome aboard! I think you should be looking to accumulate chips prior to getting to that final 9 so that you can put people in the exact situation that you are finding yourself. This used to be a huge problem for me. Early states i would accumulate chips, middle stages i would find myself blinding down, then on the bubble im the one getting abused. Watch a ton of mid-stage stuff to see how the pros are accumulating chips in those phases of the game.

Good luck!

Thanks killingbird. Hmmm sounds like more practical in that sense to not be in that spot than to deal with that spot.

But in the event if its in that spot, what is the better option go manage it?

I think the “old school” thought was to go for the win and not worry about bubbling. I think that ICM considerations have become much more “appreciated” the last couple of years. In general, I think it if pays 7 and we are below 7th in chips we should be looking to get out of that spot with a double up or my shoving and stealing blinds. If we are above 7th, we have to work harder to protect our tournament life and should be a bit more cautious. Just one man’s opinion.

Welcome Hantamer,

You picked a GREAT site to get your study in. You’ll see my recent posts on my GREAT and speedy success since joining. I wish you the same!

AND NOT TO BE REDUNDANT BUT…

I JUST got over this hump again (I took a few years off what was a lucrative poker “career”). I found myself CONSTANTLY running deep and bubbling and than after more practice final tabling but ending up say 8 of 9 or 9 of 9 making a double up (at least) a necessity (even IF the maybe 2 big stacks go to war and one busts, not much help as that’s just a BIGGER stack, but yeah one less player), especially with the blinds coming up the rear. So I HAD to start deviating from PURE A.B.C. (there is a good article on this site called A.B.C equals S.O.L which really helped me) and get a little creative. It took confidence in my skills and it has worked. Initially I would lose but over the long run my +EV and wins showed me my adaptation worked!!! I decided “shoot or shoot” otherwise how are you going to make a basket (or a hand, and as you rise in skill that is exactly what I do, MAKE hands).

Again welcome and run good!
