Well off with 11 buddies for a Friday Saturday get away weekend. Lots of beers and golf in the next couple days. I will get home just in time to get my Sunday grind on. And then fly out to Sin City on Monday night. So next few days are going to be pretty cramped. Hopefully this is the year of the bigdog in Vegas. I feel like there are alot of bad players with wsop bracelets. So that makes me think that I have a chance. Heres hoping it goes my way and I can get one of those. Doubt my life with be complete until I manage to hear my national anthem in the amazon room while holding my bracelet. Everyone have a good weekend and we will see you on the felts soon. bigdogpckt5s

The SCOOPS/FTOPS did not go the way I planned. I think I bricked 35k in buy-ins across the five week period. It certainly happens and I’ve felt really good throughout the whole grind session, so I’m still going into the WSOP feeling confident. I get there on the 30th of May, and my schedule is actually really light for the two weeks I’m there. A bunch of $1500 events, with one $1k and a couple smaller Venetians mixed in on my days off if I’m not feeling burnt out. I consider this a business trip for me, but I am looking forward to seeing a bunch of my friends. I had always envisioned traveling the world to play poker, but I don’t make it out to live events all that often. The travel and lodging is such a burden financially, [More...]
The pool is warming up, the greens are getting fast, and the barbaque is out. Oh summer, finally…let the good times roll! I got out on the links early this morning. Played the 1k last night til 4 am and still made my 8 am t-off time. Today wasn’t my best round but hit a few bombs 300 yards straight down the tube which always makes you feel good. The pool is up running and warming. Putting some steaks on the barbaque in about 3 hours. Who could ask for more. Wsop is all but upon us, if I could just convince friends and family to stop scheduling weddings every year in June I would be a happy man. How does everyone on the planet not knowthat the WSOP is the whole month of June! Seems pretty odd to me. :b Looks [More...]
Manage your BR. Nah, play for the big score. You’re due to break out of your downswing. Those are the conflicting thoughts that have been going through my head the last few weeks. After cashing in the NAPT Mohegan Sun ME in early April, my BR was extremely healthy. I took out a big chunk for house improvements and TPE startup funding. Then I went on a 200 ABI downswing. It ate up nearly half my roll. As it got worse and worse, I would make a deep run and take an awful beat with 20-30 left and think I was on the verge of breaking through. So I never dropped down. I’ve gotten used to playing anything I wanted. This includes the nightly majors like the PS 100k, FTP 75k, anything really on sundays. For the most part I [More...]
So scoop is ending this weekend and so far I’m not that upset to see it go. Been getting some dreams built/crushed with the latest being staying up till 11am in the 1K only to bust 15th for 4x my buyin. Woot. That combined with some cashes and nothing else going right is leading to a not surprising lame SCOOP, but it’s not over yet. I will be playing the 2000 cubed event on Friday, and will be playing the scoops on sunday as well to close it out. All it takes is 1 day in MTT’s and I’m going to do my best to focus and play well. Been doing some videos and will have a 12$ 180 man video up soon that I hope will help a lot of people as those are really good bankroll builders and [More...]
I’ve had some pretty close calls in SCOOP. a 29th and a 46th stick out most in my head. Oh well, I have this weekend. I’ve been looking over a lot of HHs and plugging leaks, trying to identify bad patterns that start to develop during a bad run. So that has helped my confidence a bit. What I’m really excited for, though, is the WSOP!!! I just got my schedule approved, and will be playing all the 1k/1.5k/2.5ks and if things go well probably some of the 5ks as well. I’m sure I’ll also be getting over to the Venetian for some of their tourneys as well. I’ve been running almost everyday, and biking on my off-days. Eating well, and the routine I hoped to set up pre-WSOP is really shaping up. I still need to get a tennis [More...]
For those that do not know, my day job is in the music business. I do sales and marketing for a record company…something I have been doing for 15+ years. A year or so ago I was laid off from one label, and during that time I took a shot at playing poker for a living. Around that time I was contacted by a producer for the show “The Story” which airs on National Public Radio. They were doing a lot of interviews with people who were losing their jobs in this tough economy, and the ways in which people were dealing with it. They were interested in my story of losing my “dream job” but then finding a new one in poker. Well, I ended up taking another job in the music business, but out of that attempt to play [More...]
So, took a few days off from the pokers. Have been grinding hard for months now. Kinda was on the burn out list from hell. But had some chillax time. Got to hit the driving range a few times and even got out on the course once. Unfortunately, we got rained out halfway through the round. I did get enough holes in to remember I’m awesome at golf tho. Probably going to get back at it maybe even today. 5 oclock scoop is kinda calling my name. Weird that I would take time off right when the scoops hit but when you’re burnt out, its neg ev to play imo. So, gonna get back at it and hopefully pick up where I left off. See ya at the tables. bigdog
I was on a bit of a downswing there for about 2 months. I think I was playing well, but our old friend variance was not being kind. I sensed a turnaround coming when i mincashed the first two SCOOP events. Normally mincashing is nothing to get too excited about, but I felt I was playing really well and just got unlucky in both. These deep runs always seem to be followed by some wins, so I kep grinding away. Fortunately the wins finally came. Tuesday night I had 4 final tables including an outright win in a $12/90 KO on Full Tilt that I just dominated from start to finish, and a 2nd place finish in a $4/180 on Stars. Not life changing money, but nice bankroll builders and hopefully the start of a nice heater as SCOOP winds [More...]
Haven’t posted in a while, because frankly there’s really been nothing to say. I am running very bad, and I think it’s caused me to make some questionable plays and that is just the worst. Have been spending my days reviewing HHs and then playing fewer tables and trying to pay closer attention. Ironically enough, life outside of poker couldn’t be much better. I’m having a blast being back in VT and spending time with my lady. I’m eating well, getting exercise and reading everyday–which I was starting to slack on back in Tahoe. SCOOP is going fine I guess all things considered. I remain excited for the rest of the series and then a bit of a rest as I gear up for WSOP. I’m REALLY FUCKING EXCITED for WSOP. I have some personal fitness goals I’d like to [More...]
