As an avid podcast listener, I am always looking for new stuff to check out. And I’m sure there are others out there looking for stuff to listen to as well.  With that, I thought I would throw together  a list of my favorite poker podcasts. This is not an all inclusive list by any means, as i do not listen to every podcast out there. But this will give you a pretty good starting point. So with that, on to the list!

Podcasts

Tournament Poker Edge Podcast

Of course I have to start with the Tournament Poker Edge Podcast. But I include it not just because I am one of the hosts! I include it because it is the poker podcast I always wish existed before we created it. I enjoy general poker news podcasts too, but what I always craved was a podcast that focused primarily on strategy. And of course as an MTT player, it would ideally focus on MTT strategy. And that is what the TPE podcast does. So if that is your thing, as I suspect it is for many people reading this, then check it out.

Thinking Poker Podcast

I have always been a big fan of Andrew Brokos. I think he is one of the best at explaining and talking though hands and poker concepts. So I was of course excited when he started the Thinking Poker Podcast. And he seems to have found the perfect co-host in Nate Mavis as they complement each other really well. This podcast tends to focus on two general areas; poker strategy and the poker lifestyle, both of which I find incredibly fascinating. Their guests tend to talk a lot more about their lives around poker than their lives in poker. And since there are plenty of shows out there that focus on the later, that suits me just fine. Their strategy segments are also top notch. They go in to a great deal of depth and are very good at breaking down complex situations so that even less experienced players can understand them.  They hands they choose come from both cash games and tournaments, but many of the concepts they discuss can really be applied to either.

Two Plus Two Pokercast

I think anyone who listens to a lot of poker podcasts will agree that the Two Plus Two Pokercast is hands down the best news/interview based poker podcast. They do delve somewhat in to strategy but not on every episode and not in nearly the kind of detail that the previous two podcasts do. That being said, the episodes are released on a very regular basis, so you can usually be sure you are getting the latest news. They also tend to cover all of the major live events, so you get solid recaps of events like the EPT, the World Poker Tour and of course the WSOP. These guys have been doing their show for a long time, and it shows in both their chemistry together as hosts and in the production quality of the show.

Other Podcasts

There are other podcasts I have checked out and enjoyed, such as The Poker Edge with Andrew Feldman and the PokerNews podcast. But neither of these have released episodes in several months, so I am not sure on that status of those.

There are also several podcasts that I have heard good things about, but I simply have not checked out such as the Bernard Lee Poker Show and the Ante Up Poker Podcast. These seem to be more straight forward “poker interview” shows, so that is your thing check those out as well.

Finally, if you don’t mind listening to older podcast archives, make sure you track down some episodes of Poker Road Radio. This was the podcast that actually turned me on to poker podcasts in the first place! They went through a series of hosts but all of them were pretty strong, especially the episodes featuring Gavin Smith as he was always fun to listen too. They also always managed to get the best guests and did a ton of episodes live from the World Series of Poker. Those episodes in particular are worth searching out.

I hope this list serves as a starting point to introduce you to the world of poker podcasting. But don’t stop here, there are TONS of them out there, so find some and be sure to let me know what your favorites are!

Regarding the 2+2 podcast, I have found them variable…
Because of this I have not listened to many, nor for some time. I would love to hear mention of particularly good episodes to listen to. What favourites do you guys have?
