In a new series here at Tournament Poker Edge that we call “Table Talk”, Tournament Poker Edge pros give us their answer to various questions. First up…

What was the first poker book you ever read?

“Ken Warren’s Winner’s Guide to Texas Hold ‘Em Poker. It’s really a limit hold ’em book but I (wrongly, of course) assumed it would be broadly applicable for NLHE as well. I don’t really remember anything from it, but it probably did convey some basic poker concepts that were helpful to me.” – Andrew Brokos

“Mike Caro Book of Tells.  I received it as a gift.” – Casey Jarzabek

Books“I’ve never actually read a poker book in my life, well at least not a strategy book. ‘Poker Wisdom of a Champion’ was the only one I remember ever starting which was a collection of stories/adventures written by the legend Doyle Brunson, but that’s about it. I’ve always been a visual learner so training videos were right down my alley and help you learn way more effectively than something written in a book. Think it might just be because I’m to ADD to sit still and read one line at a time but a video (depending on the instructor) can be entertaining and informative at the same time.” – Cory Waaland

“I have never really been the type to sit down and read many poker books. Doyle Brunson’s Super System 2 was the first book I dabbled with. Obviously it is a really popular one and has some really good insight for beginners through advanced players. If I had to recommend a poker book to someone, this would be it.” – Danny Noseworthy

Hold ’em Poker for Advanced Players by Sklansky and Malmuth. This was 13 yrs ago. There were not that many books out at that time.” – Daryl Jace

“Doyle Brunson’s Super System.  At a time when no training sites existed and there were very few books, Doyle’s work was the only source for No Limit Holdem.  I still think it has a ton of relevance in today’s game even though most would say its outdated.  A MUST read in my opinion” – Marc Alioto

“In my business statistics class back in college, one of our projects was to determine a calculate the odds in the game of poker. My group’s chosen style was NLHE obviously! First book we read together to learn the game was Doyle Brunson’s Super System. One day, I would love to meet him and have him autograph my copy!”
