If you read my first blog of the summer, you know things got off to a decent start here in Vegas. But if you play MTTs you also know that eventually variance can catch up to you. Since making the final table of my very first tournament of the summer, things have taken a turn for the worse. I busted two Venetian tournaments in the first level. And worked up a big stack in another only to see it fall apart as the bubble approached.

After I busted the last one, I opted to jet over to the Rio to play the World Series of Poker $1k (Event 18). Could not get much going for a while and at one point had 1200 chips at 75/150.  I managed to spin that up a bit to around 4-5K when I was moved to Lee Childs table.  It was here that I was finally able to get something going. I isod a late position short stack shove with AJss but ran into AK and 88.  Flopped a Jack and turned a flush though which got me to 10K. A few hands later a guy opens to 750 at 150/300.  I make it 1725 with two red aces and he flats leaving like 1100 behind. He open shoves on an all heart board.  I of course call and he has black JT.  This put me over 1400 and I was finally in the mix.

Unfortunately things started to fall apart after dinner and eventually I found myself in that dreaded 10-15 BB range. I push/folded my way along for a good while and got to a point where if I could double I could make a run into the money and beyond.  Unfortunately it was not to be. I shoved 8 or 9 bbs from the button with 7Tdd and ran in to A8 and could not get there. I busted about 40 from the money. It was disappointing, but I definitely enjoyed it.

I have a few days off now and am going to just rest up and get caught up on TPE business.

I’ve had a blast meeting a bunch of TPE members, so if you are out here still, make sure and hit us up!!
