Just a quick little trip report for the first two days of my WSOP Circuit Event series here at Harrah’s in Cherokee, NC.  Attendance seems really solid, I missed the big re-entry event unfortunately, but I heard they broke a record for number of runners in that one, so that is a good sign about the health of poker in this neck of the woods.  Event seems much better run this year too, quality dealers and floor staff and so on.

My first event was a $365 NLHE tournament that got about 400 runners. Played really well all day and was able to accumulate a nice stack.  Until this hand. We are at 500/1000 and I have about 36K. Absurdly drunk guy UTG+1 tries to raise, but sort of just calls but then string raises and the dealer lets it slide.  Button calls. I look down at J5dd and decide to call because i know if I flop anything I can stack this guy. Flop comes J85 rainbow. I check, drunk guy piles something like 20K in to about a 7K pot.  Button thinks for a long time and calls.  I shove for 16K more and button snap calls. Drunk guy shows Q5 and button shows 9To for the open ender, but thankfully drunk guy has one of his outs…right?  Snap Q on the turn and I lose something like a 100K pot with the money bubble approaching.

Second event was today, a $365 NLHE 6max.  Lost a big pot early, but then chipped back up.  The I open A5s and get one caller, flop comes K5x.  I cbet, he calls. Turn is an A giving me two pair.  I bet again he calls.  River is an 8.  I bet, he piles I call and he shows 88 for the rivered set.  Im crippled, but manage to work it back up to 17K.  Guy min raises from the button. I call with 45ss.  flop comes 66K. I check, he checks.  Turn is an A and i decide to lead because i want to start getting money in the pot, and i figure there is a decent chance he was raising with an A. He calls.  River is a 5.  I bet about half of my stack.  He shoves.  I snap.  he shows 55 for the rivered boat.

Had almost forgot how painful live poker was!!  Have at least two more events left in this series, including another $365 tomorrow. Hopefully things will go a little better.  Have had the good fortune to run in to a bunch of TPE members here, and it has been cool to put some faces to the names.  Good luck to everyone else grinding this series!

Hi Killingbird, I was also in Cherokee this past weekend and was wondering if there were TPE people there…I think I have heard you say on your Podcast that that some of you were from NC and would be cool to put faces with the voices of TPE.
I just wanted to say thank you for such an awsome site… I feel it has brought my game up to a whole new level….just won my 1st ring and took down the seniors event (ya, don’t make fun of the senior thing I am a little sensitive about that) which I was told during the WSOP.com interview was the biggest senior event in WSOP history.. 829 people. I will be back for the main next weekend if any TPE people are there would love to meet them.

How cool! Congrats! Definitely lots of TPE folks around, i ran into a half dozen members or so. And on the pro side I know Cory is there.

Don;t worry about the senior thing, I was just telling someone at Cherokee that I will be able to play that in 8 years! Thanks for the kind words about TPE.
