Just thought I would write a short (brag) story about my recent cash game success and how my tourney play has helped it. Before about 10 months ago when I decided to get semi serious with my poker, I would jump around a lot in the games I played – I would play 6max and heads up cash as well as a few tourneys here and there, and some PLO etc etc. I was relatively decent and went from 10NL to 50NL (although I was pretty underrolled for 50NL looking back at it). The reason I decided to quit cash games was that I found out that I was a massive spewtard and I would just automatically take lines like mashing pot with QQ until all the money was in the middle (obv a slight exaggeration but you [More...]

Okay so I thought I would update you a little on the challenge. I decided to download Cake and try it on there as well as Carbon (Merge Network). Well after a frustrating series of attempts it seems my PC is convinced Cake is a virus and keeps deleting it, so no dice there. That's okay though I was playing around with it on my brother's PC a little on Sunday and I wasn't all that excited about it, so no loss to me as far as I am concerned. That being said I am confining my challenge to Carbon Poker which is a skin for the Merge Network (includes Lock Poker and I am not sure which others). For those not familiar with the idea, the skinning works exactly like Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet did, different software/interface slightly [More...]

As with many of my fellow US players I have been searching for possible options and alternatives to fill the vacuum that has appeared since last week. As I have said in some of the forum threads and discussions I think that the DOJ is pretty smart and are watching where the money moves in this time to get a feel for full horizon of the online poker landscape. So with that being said, there are many places that are accepting US players for playing in real money games (which from the indictment I understand that playing is not illegal, just moving the money is what they are frowing upon) so I spent some time thinking on this. The conclusion I came to is that this may very well be the perfect time for a little Ferguson Challenge for the [More...]
I want to comment on everyone's questions about what to do now that the main online poker sites have been seized by the government. "Should we take our money off?" "When will we be able to play again?" "What are you going to do as a professional?" "Will we ever be able to play on Pokerstars again?" All these questions are good ones, but I have no idea what the right answers are. I can only speculate, but I want to be very informed on the situation before I ever give advice. I'd like to take this space to just discuss how this has affected me personally, and just hope it's relatable. At 21 year olds, I decided to give poker a whirl instead of pursuing a professional job. I finished school as quickly as I could, never traveling anywhere. [More...]
Well Black Friday has come and gone and many of hours of reflection later it is time to figure out how to go forward. I spent a lot of time relaxing and getting back to doing other things this weekend that I haven't done in a while and it was nice. I am glad that I will gain my weekends back, but what I am really missing about playing is during the week after work. It was my wind down, my destress. It gave me something to think and focus on during the really lousy boring days, keep me sharp and really helped excercise my mind. So what now? I suppose that is the question being asked by so many. Well I'm not sure. I suppose if I had an answer I would have shared it, but I don't. What [More...]
It is pretty hard to have missed the goings on Friday in the online poker world. Everyone who plays online poker has been effected by the elimination of the US marketplace from the "real money" online poker community. I read one site that showed that Pokerstars was cutting GTD's all over the place. I took a quick look and it seems that the Sunday Majors have remained intact to a certain degree or another (The Sunday Storm was down from 300k to 200k and the 8am one was down from 150k to 75k). As a US player I thought I would share my thoughts. I am not a professional and I don't make my living playing poker, but I was making what is the equivalent of a really really nice second job. I hadn't withdrew anything as I was working [More...]
