Made it through to day 2! Was a rollercoaster of a day. I ended up with ~24k after being down to about 20k during level 2 and then as big as 60k during level 3.

My table was pretty soft. A few older guys and a few burly home-game type players. Just one or two young internet types. The early going was slow. I established a pretty aggressive image and got paid off with hands.

For example, during level 3 I flopped quads once and checked, led turn and river for a big pot when a K hit the turn and AK paid me.

After dinner I ran into some trouble. First I lost a big pot. I ran it by Wein and he didn’t like my line.

Second orbit after dinner at 150/300 25ante – I have about 50k. one player limps and the CO makes it 1100. He was a middle aged guy who was actually playing pretty loose. The button calls (he was a good young internet guy).

I have TT in the BB. I look at stacks and the CO has about 11k behind. I figure I can pick this pot up a decent amount given the lp open and flat. I size a 3 bet to have make a call clear vs the CO. So I go 4k. He tank jams on me and the button folds.

I had expected him to fold most of his range there but when he calls I have to pay 8k for a 25k pot so I’m priced in I think. He had JJ and held knocking me down to 38k.

Wein thinks flatting there is best given how much losing 12k does to my stack and gaining the chips is not as valuable and he probably has a good point. The flop was a bunch of low cards so it probably would have been tough to get away from anyway.

The other hand that really bit into me was AQcc from MP. EP opened (the young internet guy) so I just flat. Folds around – 2 handed to flop. We are about 35k deep.

flop is Q38cc. He leads and I feel like we are too deep here (100bbs deep) to try to get it all in given his EP open. I just call. Turn is a blank and he leads, I call. River is another blank and he puts in 5k to a 7.5k pot. Anyone fold here?

He had KK. I got taken to valuetown so hard. That knocked me under 30k and the rest of the day was pretty uneventful. The rest of the way I was happy with everything i did, i just couldn’t connect with flops. It was the kind of table that if you get called you’re probably behind and not getting folds. So I was trying to steal a lot but had to slow down if it didn’t work – and then hopefully get paid by the big hands. If i had made a set or a two pair I definitely could have made money off of TP but it just didn’t happen.

After the day, 4 of the players came up to me and told me that they thought I was incredibly good and glad to be away from me, so that’s a nice little confidence boost going into day 2. And with 60bbs I should still have room to make something happen.
